18:38 This shows that James Hetfield is a pure metal guy.
SharpWalkers 06 февраля 2014 года в 20:20 19
He's a phenomenal pianist.
Some piano parts during the performance worked very well, other fell completely flat or out of place. The rehearsal part where you pretyt much only hear Lang Lang sound great though, that probably says something as well. But I'm a little saddened by some reactions, so narrowminded (even beforehand), at least these guys are down to do shit like this.
LiNingAir 03 мая 2018 года в 03:24
You only heard Lang Lang's playing because he's playing on a concert piano that's made for huge concert halls... the others weren't plugged into the big amps. The camera was directly above the strings too lol
cheatingthesystem21 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:07 111
18:33 James that was awesome hahaha
Stromby 06 февраля 2014 года в 14:49
yeah
Blaz3d&Daz3d 06 февраля 2014 года в 14:11
Yeah I guess, but it's been a long time since then.
Stromby 06 февраля 2014 года в 13:56
+443kratos James took piano lessons as a kid so i think that's why he knew ;) and YEAH Metallica are Freaking Awesome! :)
Blaz3d&Daz3d 06 февраля 2014 года в 11:23
Yeah. Epic metallica moment. I wonder how the fuck did he know which one the E string was. And it was the right octave too. That's awesome. Proof that metallica are all great musicians.
starfun17 06 февраля 2014 года в 00:55 52
you can clearly see that james doesn't like the idea.
Mike Støckl 05 ноября 2018 года в 17:40
i dont think he doesn't likes collaborations with other musicians maybe he´s just pissed of because of the grammy stuff itself
onetwothree123 11 января 2018 года в 05:14
starfun17 They performed with Lang Lang again in 2017 so it apparently grew on him.
François Robitaille 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:29
Have you ever work with a band, sometime you have to be serious, it does'nt mean that you don't like.
Bryan Moon 06 февраля 2014 года в 14:15 38
In my opinion this experiment didn't work. Lang Lang is obviously a brilliant classical piano player and Metallica are a legendary metal band, but when I heard them play together at The Grammys. They were so out of key with one another, that from time to time, it didn't even sound like they were playing the same song!!!
Raihan Amirul 02 октября 2018 года в 10:24
It sounds better in this rehearseal, in live performance, only some parts that sound goods
Jonathan Hartley 13 мая 2018 года в 16:42
Aerochalklate you sound like a musical child also.... ‘does Lang Lang make his own songs....?’ He composed music, yes.
Aerochalklate 13 мая 2018 года в 16:25
Jonathan Hartley does lang make his own songs?
Jonathan Hartley 07 мая 2018 года в 06:39
Bryan Moon Lang Lang is a musical god whereas Metallica are musical children.... that’s the essence of the problem.
Pooya 26 февраля 2018 года в 05:07
I agree. I think he was trying to "show off" his skills which he did. It just didn't fit in properly.
NeXus 28 февраля 2014 года в 19:01 32
I don't why what people have against Rob... He's a great BASS player.
Mega ducK 23 августа 2016 года в 14:24
Because he was always better in Suicidal
GingerDaniel 04 февраля 2015 года в 01:32
i just dont think he fits them. and i hate the way he plays.
OfficialHammett 21 декабря 2014 года в 13:36
I love you for writing that :D he really is amazing
Odsy 29 августа 2016 года в 16:37 24
The tapping on the piano is so triggering
Enrique Torres 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:06 4
I really liked all of Lang Lang's piano on this song. I hope I can find it soon.
Victor HD 23 марта 2016 года в 22:45 9
porfavor que alguien le pegue un tiro en la cabeza al tipo que golpea el piano, no creo que sea necesario que alguien lleve el ritmo para metallica y lang lang, ni que estuvieran idiotas
PianoGesang 05 декабря 2017 года в 23:50
Me gusta tu respuesta, yo no tenía ese conocimiento pero me lo imaginé desde el principio que lo hizo por motivos de timing entre la banda y el chinito.
montauta 20 января 2017 года в 05:58
Renzo MP 03 мая 2016 года в 08:07
EXACTO! SI HUBIERA ESTADO AHÍ, CON UNO EN LA OREJA LE CALLABA
Markoemilio 06 февраля 2014 года в 00:53 6
My honest opinion is that I just could'nt feel them mix along with the song. The idea was good but the outcome was a let down...
brylidan 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:07
live was not good  really   i would like to hear a studio ver or something like that
LITHIUM 06 февраля 2014 года в 11:21 20
You are the single note guy)))))
PacoVL46 08 февраля 2014 года в 14:29 10
Why is that idiot slapping the piano? It made sense for the first 5 seconds, after that I'm pretty sure the pianist would've been able to keep time on his own!!!
Craig John Davies 24 июня 2018 года в 23:16
Did he need to slap that hard.. Lol... 😜
malteadotas4 13 февраля 2014 года в 01:29
they should call him "Clang-Clang" after this. Man that was terrible.
IvanVallebona 11 февраля 2014 года в 16:28
+pacovl46  yeah, im erasing recent memories right now...
PacoVL46 11 февраля 2014 года в 16:24
+IvanVallebona Ok. Let's just forget about it! ;-)

jason H. Zeger 23 декабря 2015 года в 13:31 12
is the metronome guy the therapist in some kind of monster movie?
Tlou Gamer 27 марта 2016 года в 09:47
Hahah no, he looks like him but no, he is not
tone the moan 14 мая 2016 года в 23:51 22
If he's slaps that bechstein once more I'll -.-
PianoGesang 06 декабря 2017 года в 00:05
Since when does that chinese chinaman play Bechstein. He only plays Steinway.
av3nger3 17 февраля 2014 года в 21:16 7
05:44 for the exact ALMOST full main solo tab.
bashinskulls18 06 февраля 2014 года в 00:43 3
i can tell in the beginning they really didn't like that langlang comes outta nowhere with the piano.. i can tell on there face they had no choice but to do it
Carl Frisén 06 февраля 2014 года в 07:50 3
I think the piano parts fits much better in the slower parts of songs.. The slow piano part in one was actually brilliant
Riff Math 06 февраля 2014 года в 12:00 7
Damn! I'm the only person who think that the "HQ Studio" is the most badass studio in the world?!! I love you so much Metallica!
Cameron Babb 06 февраля 2014 года в 04:13 15
I could not stand the piano. It felt so out of place. It should have been a soft intro, not some crazy cheesy horror movie type of sound.
Luuk Hilhorst 23 марта 2014 года в 21:29 5
Lars is starting to look like Trevor...
Fingamer™ 30 апреля 2018 года в 19:15
Luuk Hilhorst Lol!
Adam Myers 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:15 10
I like this version better than the actual Grammys performance.
Bryce Freeman 13 февраля 2014 года в 11:33 3
the piano in the middle of the vid, where you can really only hear the piano and james singing. It sounded really nice. A piano cover of the song would sounds amazing but i dont think it really works well with the guitars
Off The Edge 15 февраля 2014 года в 18:28
I have a piano cover of One on my channel if you want to know how it sounds
Lane Sax 15 февраля 2014 года в 05:52
+Finbar Dineen I think he meant with the guitars, not a piano playing solo
Finbar Dineen 13 февраля 2014 года в 16:39
check out vkgoeswild here on YT, she does an amazing cover of One.
Alex Duderstadt 06 февраля 2014 года в 04:34 2
That piano did not mix at all! No offense to Lang Lang he is a great player, but classical piano does not go good with Metallica. Yeah sure they did it with a Symphony but just the piano does not mix, especially when it is louder than the guitars, but I got to say that it mixed with the solo a little bit.
disadams 06 февраля 2014 года в 05:02 2
The idea was good, awesome but in Grammy's live is like Lang Lang says here in 16:05 'I can't hearing anything' but all the entire song...
Serban Ghita 21 февраля 2014 года в 22:50 2
Really hard to marry the piano with electric guitars! Check out this fine insight into Metallica's - One with Lang Lang on piano.
eagle grip 06 февраля 2014 года в 16:19 2
i don't have against to lang2. but I so love this when only Metallica did the production! but anyway its music experiment... Metallica Rocks!!!
Teutone 12 февраля 2014 года в 21:09 4
Whose idea was this?!
m169marroquin 17 февраля 2014 года в 03:43
Whose ever idea it was to make Through the Never.
cooke86 19 августа 2015 года в 05:08 9
the lang lang messed up the song like badly They should have done what they did with Apolocolyptica at the 30th anniversary show.
The Quintessential 06 января 2016 года в 06:44
hey I'm glad I wasn't the only person who said that same thing. Apocalyptica would have made it sound cooler with the violins playing the riffs and intro. I don't know who suggested Metallica to have a painist play the most heaviest songs when they should have at least made Lang Lang play the ballady songs like, Nothing Else Matters, or Unforgiven.
The Quintessential 24 апреля 2015 года в 20:37 16
Instead of featuring Lang Lang, Metallica should have had Apolocolyptica star in their Grammy performance like they did at the 30th Anniversary show at Filmore.
The Quintessential 06 января 2016 года в 15:11
+Olivier Jaquet leave me alone
Piano 06 января 2016 года в 08:23
+The Conrad no
The Quintessential 06 января 2016 года в 06:39
+Olivier Jaquet yes. it was better than Lang Lang
Piano 06 января 2016 года в 06:30
+The Conrad no
Marc Möbius 06 февраля 2014 года в 12:01 13
i like the human metronome 8:00
Colin Jones 28 апреля 2018 года в 00:52
I thought it was annoying
Malachi Crimine 06 февраля 2014 года в 19:52
he's smashing the piano huahuahauhauhau
Arash Hajbabaee 06 февраля 2014 года в 17:27
and the guy is so committed ! he could be a world human metronome champion if it was a thing !
Carlos Gomez 06 февраля 2014 года в 15:50 2
The piano sounds WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY MUCHH BETTER HEERE!
Tom M.W. 06 февраля 2014 года в 10:54 3

Very very cool METALLICA RULES!
Eduardo Servin 06 февраля 2014 года в 00:56 7
I do not approve piano with Metallica.
Theodore Of Mystery 19 января 2017 года в 19:36
Eduardo Servin Good thing that Metallica don't care about your opinion then.
AeroFix94 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:40
indeed! wtf is this shit!
ΚΔ ΖΑΚΥΝΘΟΥ 06 февраля 2014 года в 11:36 2
piano sounds way better here than in live
Manolis 23 марта 2014 года в 12:58 1
14:15 omfg, he just told Lars how to play his own song! and included a ride with it!
I bet Lars wanted to clobber him in his head hahaha xD
Billbill80s 14 марта 2014 года в 01:15 2
Hopefully Lars damages the structure of his hand from all that primitive beating the hell out of the side of that piano. I would stop playing the piano and ask him can he do ANYTHING without trying to take CONTROL.
David Smith 17 марта 2014 года в 00:19
that was not Lars lol.
Billbill80s 16 марта 2014 года в 21:22
+Luke Hertweck
Fair comment, I see now that he is standing on the other side. Still, my reference to control remains. The reference remains. And that guy tapping on the piano whoever he is it is annoying. Moreso than the catastrophic piano playing.
Luke R Dell 16 марта 2014 года в 17:11
he wasn't hitting the piano.
Piano 06 января 2016 года в 06:32 3
The guy tapping on the piano is extremely makes it very annoying... he is not even doing a constant rhythm, don't he think that Lang Lang have rhythm ???
Andie Grey 09 февраля 2014 года в 21:15 1
What did happened? I don't understand how its possible to Metallica to integrate piano in one, that is an awesome song. I'm only 16,even so im metallica fan since i have memory. Believe me,you are a fantastic band. But i don't like (i guess i'm talking for many of other fans too) how you all are modifying your songs. Please, don't make it shit. I wish you could be thrashy and heavy as you were in Kill 'em all,for example.
Please, don't make of metallica just another common band of rock. Your story and the more 30 years you have been together were excellent as a good band, but it wasn't a rock band,it was a Metal band. What did happened to you?! Metallica, don't turn apart the awesome band you used to be. James were my inspiration to start singing,Kirk were in guitar too,Metallica in general were my inspiration to go through the music world. The first song i learned in guitar were Enter Sandman.
Please guys,do not dissapoint Metallica's family.
LJ Madrigal Music 12 февраля 2015 года в 17:22 1
a collab of Heavy Metal and Classical Style... hey, I'll take it!
enalami 07 февраля 2014 года в 11:45 1
i can't remember anything
can't tell if this is true or nightmare
deep down i feel the scream
this terrible sounds anoy me

why metalica can't you stop this kind of lululangland weird collboration and do us a hell of thrash heavy metal album like that you did with death magnetic which was a good one if it's not excellent
iliabvf 06 февраля 2014 года в 09:52 2
omg they are so old, thats sad ....
iliabvf 10 февраля 2014 года в 07:38
+Karen Ragsdale True.
Karen Ragsdale 10 февраля 2014 года в 05:41
So are most of their devoted fans, like myself.  It's pretty sad growing old, so make the most of your talents while you are young !!  They have held it together for 31 years, and are still amazing!  Their talent does not decrease with age, they may not be as 'hot' as far as looks, etc... as before, but, their talent has only increased.  Metallica ROCKS!
Ingrid nova 10 февраля 2014 года в 00:46 1
Different. I´ts hard to get used to it, but anyway, I Kind of love it.......  Lang Lang awesome!!!
Lane Sax 15 февраля 2014 года в 05:56 1
I love metallica, but this sucks. St Anger Demos were better than this
breecie 06 февраля 2014 года в 16:30 1
Personally, I feel that Lang Lang tried to do too much with his parts. Doesn't flow with the music well. At times it sounds like he is playing to a completely different song.
David DEL 14 февраля 2014 года в 10:10 1
Like the piano very much.Close ur eyes.Hear, feel, sense through vibrations to stabilize and find balance in the spectrum.
CENTRA STUDIOS 07 декабря 2015 года в 12:37 3
Why is there a mash of distortion and trash can sounds over Lang Lang's piano?
Mega ducK 23 августа 2016 года в 14:22
Because Lang Lang sounds like he's just noodling over the original song and because you can nearly hear Metallica underneath his piano .
wlfrnfdjf 13 февраля 2016 года в 06:18
You're just hearing the rocks rattling around in your head
rabka 123 06 февраля 2014 года в 13:18 1
какие они блеать старые . noooooooooooooo!!!!
Piano&VocalGuy89 03 апреля 2014 года в 18:10 6
Wow at all these ignorant comments about Lang Lang. For the people who don't know him, he's a virtuoso classical pianist. He's a great pianist who is very expressive. He has the ability to bring classical music to mass media. His "banging" is incredible.
Austin Bramer 14 октября 2018 года в 06:35
Piano&VocalGuy89 he sucks ass
Fred Gómez 19 февраля 2014 года в 14:17 3
kimbows 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:40 1
I really liked the performance, and Metallica sounds awesome as always.
François Robitaille 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:34 1
The version is much better when we can hear the piano like that.
metalhed228 06 февраля 2014 года в 16:31 1
They should've done it piano and vocals only
Edna Ferreira 09 февраля 2014 года в 01:11 5

With only piano, i mean without drums it sounds so much better. Lang lang did a great job here, see at 10:07, i really like those notes. Now i know how it would be if we have a piano record of "One". Of course by Lang Lang.
shokid 06 февраля 2014 года в 07:57 1
LOL @4:02 "you're the single note guy"
Karen Ragsdale 23 февраля 2014 года в 05:19 1
A band who has been at the top for 30+ years receiving criticism from...not sure, guessing everyone dissing them on here are also multi-millionaires and extremely musically talented?  This is a 'clash' performance, yes, only shows how music can be so chaotically compatible!!  Lars is totally OCD, most musicians are.  These guys are all AWESOME!!  Metallica RULES - Lang Lang is awesome!!
Corpus Callosum 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:23 12
awesome piano playing.  they should have this guy play throughout their next album
Craig John Davies 24 июня 2018 года в 23:09
Hopefully........
Arthur S 18 января 2017 года в 23:52 1
"One" is not a song that pairs well with a classical piano sound. Perhaps "Fade to Black" would of been a better choice? "Welcome Home Sanitarium"? I was listening to some Bathory Hammerheart earlier and thought how well Lang Lang could play along to Viking metal.
J Stone 08 февраля 2014 года в 22:36 1

Pierre Abi-khalil 11 февраля 2014 года в 07:58
So you're telling me, right now, that there's an asian band called Metallica.. Who're better than Metallica? :O
pasley21 06 февраля 2014 года в 00:48 2
This was absolute shit, why cant Metallica just play the song
Drithien 06 февраля 2014 года в 02:26
You can listen to them play One normally on seemingly endless occasions, throughout the years ever since the song was released in ...And Justice For All. The version of the Grammy's is supposed to be a somewhat different take on it. Nothing wrong with that. Nobody is taking the original version away.
somekindofmonster7 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:26
+Flint1y Yea, 'cause when has Metallica ever tried something new? -sarcasm.

+bashinskulls18
They could put integrity above financial gain and tell the grammys to get fucked.
bashinskulls18 06 февраля 2014 года в 00:50
the grammys made them have to do it. in order to play.... they had no choice dude
Luivan Santos 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:50 1
Wtf?
jason H. Zeger 23 декабря 2015 года в 13:28 1
poor Bass!nobody even bother alking about this instrument!
InfinyteGard3n 07 октября 2014 года в 11:18 2
That was a good idea but they should have played Orion or Welcome home Sanitarium instead
The Quintessential 06 января 2016 года в 06:50
I agree. the more ballad songs would have collaborated with the piano. The mashup they did with Lang Lang sounded overproduced.
Mikhail Orenkin 06 февраля 2014 года в 01:19 1

The_DeadGamer 19 января 2017 года в 08:26
Because most of the people now are playing pop on piano not classic music, and these are the techniques from the classical music
Pablo Gerardo Garcia Perusina 03 августа 2015 года в 19:41 2
Annoying human metronome...
justin detrinidad 31 января 2015 года в 09:58 1
How come gay lang lang solos every time kirk solos, hell he's soloing the whole song he should be following the rhythm. Dude you get a solo don't worry but not the whole song i could've made this set up better cause he shouldn't be soloing over everything its too distracting and hard to focus on one sound when two different kinds of songs are going on its like if you took two separate completely different songs and just played it at the same time.
Vishal Sheth 06 июля 2016 года в 16:52 1
Indian flag at the Metallica HQ! That made my day!
Arct 06 февраля 2014 года в 00:58 5
lol... here that mashup makes sense, but on grammys something went realy wrong... Lang Lang didn't hear Metallica??

It is so strange to see Metallica working with an MD.
Loanguy619 06 февраля 2014 года в 23:29 0
I'm going to preface my comment by saying: as classical piano musician who has performed music at the University level, who has think outside the box originality, and loves just about every genre of music as long as there is talent present, I'm going to put it like this: Out of Grammy compilation's that performed that night,  Metallica & Lang Lang broke the mold and put an epic performance together melded with fresh, new, raw musical ideas fused together like soft (piano) and hard (forte) steel to forge a new, state of the art, cutting edge style of music. My only lament is that they will probably never play together again to shred and produce this yin & yang chiaroscuro sound.

Compromising your own performance so Langx2 can give a better one? I hope you never do that again, Metallica, for anyone. The first rehearsal with Lang sounded very nice I'm actually impressed if that's what you were going for with him, but it seems those last minute changes requested by "Bob" were what made it all result in a performance so out of sync as if the audio rehearsal wasn't enough to make you hesitant whether you'd play your parts on time. The next time you do an on stage collaboration find it in your humble selves to say 'sorry, but we have to do things the way we've rehearsed for the sake of our own performance.' Or just don't play at the Grammys again! Fuck those people! You guys are on a level of your own!

Lars, du begynder mere og mere at ligne Bjørn Tidman til forveksling ...hahahah ;-)

Eh. Lang Lang could learn and play this blind I bet. He won the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition and he's played well with Herbie Hancock. The problem to me seems to stem from the band itself and sound guy. A pianist like Lang Lang has worked with many conductors and instrumentalists, even the fearsome Baronboim himself.

Is it me, or does it seem that Lang Lang piano parts seem like they fit the song a lot better here? For some reason at the Grammy's it seemed like all his parts were out of key and a bit to intricate at some parts. Idk, that's just what I'm picking up.

*dude slapping the piano*, you don't get to come near my piano, ever!!! pretty sure lang lang wasn't using his timing anyways!!!
Yeah the piano rehearsal version is better than the live version!!! im a massive fan of Metallica by piano, but felt really conflicted about it, like Lang Lang was trying to outdo Metallica instead of play with them. Scott d Davis would have been a much better choice!!!!

Did not know Lang spoke English. Thought the whole time they couldn’t understand each other then he talked to Lars.

I really liked this collaboration, i think metallica has always been about making something new or different and they went for it and it was very good, it's just people don't appreciate how the piano arrangement is worked, it does not have to necessarily be a exact copy of the guitars, actually those are the best. It would be really cool if they put out something with a good mixing though.
