I don't think people realize how much of a rare treat it is to see a band of this magnitude allowing the creative process to be seen like this. Most musicians are really protective and private during this process. It's awesome stuff!
Radosław Walkowski 06 октября 2018 года в 13:10
Nowadays most of the singers use pitch corrections, but even if James uses it it's so subtle you wouldn't recognize the difference
Kasper Kankkunen 03 октября 2018 года в 12:25
devin barnum I think one of the reasons why they can/want to published videos is the fact that they have nothing to hide while making these songs. I mean James doesn’t use autotune/pitch correction and the instruments are played by human not a computer. Which are pretty common things to do these days in the music business.
Rodrigo Fernandez 03 декабря 2016 года в 01:23
True... I think it is because they're having so much fun that they give 0 f*cks about everything else
BATTIS94 02 декабря 2016 года в 22:36 87
6:35 that little moment between James and the other guy warms my heart.
Binky Bones 09 сентября 2018 года в 09:26
If I was James, I would have punched him in the dick and fired him
Cordell Kelley 11 марта 2018 года в 05:50
I want to be their snack fetcher! lol

And notice how Lars had pancakes brought to him when he was sitting at the sound board thing
Crónicas de Huevos 11 февраля 2017 года в 23:18
me too :') . I love this guys ..
BATTIS94 04 декабря 2016 года в 19:35
+King Of Hell Oh I wasn't talking about you, you just shared your thoughts and I get your point. But I don't get people saying "lol" or "chill buddy, he just said thank you" (making fun of me). I mean, my comment is about being nice to each other, let's be nice to each other then!
A.A 04 декабря 2016 года в 19:14
+BATTIS94 Oh don't worry it's not against you, I simply explained my POV ^^
Honigdachs 03 декабря 2016 года в 13:35 46
One of the best songs on the album. Everyone can thrash, speed and hammer along all day. But this super-slick, ultra-heavy groove stuff ... can't fake that. Separates the men from the boys!
Martin Poulsen 08 ноября 2018 года в 22:16
Ohhhh totally! ...Fuel, Bleeding me, Poor twisted me and King Nothing are those that do it for me on Load/Reload
darkstorm979 28 июля 2018 года в 19:54
Definitely a fan of load and reload. Yes, this and Now That We're Dead sound like the belong on there
Kevin Luper 14 апреля 2017 года в 21:17
Jimmy Hellfire a lot more people are warming up to Load and ReLoad lately.
Honigdachs 04 декабря 2016 года в 21:18
It fits the album perfectly and not "out of place" at all. The album would be worse without it.
Honigdachs 04 декабря 2016 года в 21:11
Not necessarily those, but I'm a fan of songs such as 2x4 , Devil's Dance or Fixxxer, which is seriously grooving, big balls, adult male metal.
ShortFingeredShreder 03 декабря 2016 года в 04:39 35
9:24 I didn't know if James was aware of his overenunciating until now.
metalforever12345 02 декабря 2016 года в 21:03 165
8:36 i always confuse that "faith" tattoo in his right arm with the Ford logo.
Andy 04 декабря 2016 года в 23:14
Pretty sure his rat rod is like a '32 Ford so would make sense.
Aldo Zanelli 02 декабря 2016 года в 23:01
It's on purpose, I guess you all know that tho.
Aaron Tanner 02 декабря 2016 года в 21:27
metalforever12345 LOL I always thought it was a Ford tattoo until I saw this comment

To Begin Whipping Dance of the Dead 04 декабря 2016 года в 17:09 29
PLOT TWIST: Dave Mustaine goes to the beach and finds Kirk's lost iPhone, uses riff ideas on new Megadeth album like Metallica did to him! :0

I'm kidding, don't slaughter me pls
Cordell Kelley 11 марта 2018 года в 05:56
Of course! Dave Mustaine is the villain in this story! He has always been the villain! lol

(But, um, I hate Megadeath. It is what the old fans wish Metallica is today; still stuck in thrash.)
Adam Turner 12 декабря 2016 года в 20:56
underated comment of the century...laughing like a bitch
Gutek09 08 декабря 2016 года в 08:13
I know, I was replying to the other guy, TBH I laughed at your joke ;)
To Begin Whipping Dance of the Dead 08 декабря 2016 года в 02:41
+KKGames holy fuck it was a joke
Gutek09 07 декабря 2016 года в 18:07
Kirks are better IMO, and no proof of Metallica using Mustaines riffs

Jeremy Sutherland 07 декабря 2016 года в 20:20
Yeah totally! I mean, he writes all the riffs while playing the guitar too! Oh wait...
Greg Payne 03 декабря 2016 года в 08:00
I agree mate, he has the vision. But, look the tools he that he has at his disposal.
MassYak85 02 декабря 2016 года в 20:48 68
I'm really liking these videos. Cool to see how they developed each idea.
Stefan S 02 декабря 2016 года в 22:10 21
why is there nothing about the intro?
Kevin Fitzpatrick 19 октября 2018 года в 00:23
Stefan S in one of the making of death magnetic videos you can hear rob play a bit of it so he must have had it at least partly written years ago
voltaspeeder17 09 апреля 2017 года в 11:34 8
If you play it perfectly, we can go home. "Yeah, but what are we going to do for the rest of the weekend?" Good point. LMAO
Chubzdoomer 02 декабря 2016 года в 20:59 45
8:08 Does James do this to loosen up his voice/vocal cords? I noticed he did the same thing in the Making Of video for Dream No More as well. Very interesting!
Cine Silenziosa 21 сентября 2018 года в 19:54
In SKOM you can see him singing along to a cassette of piano scales which he says he's had since the early 90s when he saw a vocal coach after blowing out his voice on the Black Album tours.
Nick Kelly 04 ноября 2017 года в 01:11
Clearing the throat and warming up, normally in choral warmups you'll do scales up and down your vocal range and he basically did most of his top range with some distortion in a quick warmup.
andrew chopper jones fitness 12 декабря 2016 года в 19:44
Chubzdoomer he's setting correct key
TheMentalita 03 декабря 2016 года в 11:01

Vocal exercises/warm-ups, yes.

I feel so bad for Kirk losing all of his riff ideas on his phone.
RetiredSplash25 03 мая 2018 года в 19:05
He said in an interview that he wasnt mad about it. He said maybe those ideas werent good enough or meant to be which is why his phone got lost. He said that was a new era for the album
Cordell Kelley 11 марта 2018 года в 05:53
Millions of fans around the world? We can find that phone!

Dont forget the couch cushions.
PazBinv1 13 октября 2017 года в 08:37
I'm sure I saw an interview with James where he appeared to say that he wasn't convinced about this phone loss business.
András Lacfi 06 декабря 2016 года в 09:14
iCloud?
Chris Downey 04 декабря 2016 года в 19:12
kirk claims he had a ipad full of like 200 song idea for the new album that he lost, it was all gone. he ended up not writing anything except a couple of his solos, and even those are mostly molded by Lars
Marcos 03 декабря 2016 года в 03:51 30
This song is underrated, and i dont know why. Its Metallica meets Sabbath riff style, its groovy, has an awesome vocal by James.
Cant wait to see all of the new songs live, please make it happen Metallica!!
Gary McWhorter 03 декабря 2016 года в 11:27 43
I love the way Lars puts so much effort into the simplest of rhythms lol.

Those faces.
Eddie Lack 04 декабря 2016 года в 11:32
He labors big time on everything, BUT, he pulls it off in the end and we wouldn't have "metal" without him. Gotta love that little garden gnome.
Ivo Pranjic 03 декабря 2016 года в 20:25 44
What a disappointment. Rob has credit on this song and this video barely shows him contributing at all. Where's the clip on them working on that nice bass intro??
Kevin Fitzpatrick 10 февраля 2017 года в 17:11
Yeah rob probably wrote it before and they only needed one take and they didn't have the camera for it
Tao Tuhao 07 декабря 2016 года в 04:08
Mostly likely Rob wrote the entire intro and James liked it and played the octave. Maybe not interesting enough for video? Or James didn't like it and Lars loved it, they fought over it, and left that part out of the video...Ha Ha.
Fernando Pleitez 06 декабря 2016 года в 23:41
Ivo Pranjic he got credit for staying late while Lars had to leave lol
Martin Trajanovski 04 декабря 2016 года в 16:35
Yes, I was interested which parts of the song were his, and the video doesen't reveal any of that
aniki937 04 декабря 2016 года в 02:55
We all expected that you're right ! Before watching the video, seeing the title I was already in a mood to see a dedication to Mister Cliff Burton (RIP) when in fact I have not. Disappointed
240 03 декабря 2016 года в 01:57 15
7:10 James goes full Tom Morello
OrangeNBlue 02 декабря 2016 года в 21:14 43
Not to sound corny or anything, but you guys should be really proud of the work you put in. This new shit is GREAT!!!
Mark 03 декабря 2016 года в 04:54 28
I reckon this is the best song on the album. Not sure if many would agree but i cant get enough of it!
To Begin Whipping Dance of the Dead 28 января 2017 года в 01:28
+Serge Blake Hell yeah. You see, I hated the chorus because I thought it was corny but I came to realize after like probably a dozen or two listens that it's a fuckin solid song. I play that shit on repeat now
Serge Blake 27 января 2017 года в 22:56
+To Begin Whipping Dance of the Dead That's the spirit, that's the faith in manunkind.
To Begin Whipping Dance of the Dead 27 января 2017 года в 21:11
Yeah, I take back my comment. It's actually one of the best songs on the new album
M. Swaiti666 27 января 2017 года в 18:52
it's one of my favorite songs by Metallica.
I had to listen to it several times, and this song is surprisingly complex.
Such a fantastic song.
Serge Blake 03 декабря 2016 года в 22:12
Since it's release I have heard this one non-stop. Conquered me for good.
Grant White 02 декабря 2016 года в 21:35 8
This was the one that took the most time for me to say "Huh, wow, this is actually pretty good!" James was right when saying it's not just a simple beat, it's an odd beat that will make you think. Because it's not something Metallica, and more specifically Lars, has done before!

I love Metallica. They were my first concert in Indianapolis justice for all 88/89 or around late 80's. I was 15 yrs old been loving them for 30 yrs. Going to another Metallica concert is on my bucket list. Come to Muncie Indiana. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Diggerdog2nd 02 декабря 2016 года в 21:42 16
I know as a lead guitarist you can't help but sound like yourself but I wish Kirk would step out of his safe zone & try a different approach. Once they got past Master of Puppets he changed & has never gone back .. Ride & Master have his best solo's ever but then again they have the best songs the band ever did so it was probably easier. Don't get me wrong I still love what they are doing now.
Bobby Beretta 12 декабря 2016 года в 09:18
Diggerdog2nd the way it use to work is that Kirk would go off and write specific solos for each song however on the black album he did more off the cuff solos but still was using his old technique however after the black album it seems Bob Rock preferred the on the spot stuff and ever since then Kirk has been doing what he does now. I still love Kirk and he was a major influence on me growing up but it does happen to all of us, we get comfortable in our own bubble. Just wish he would bust out of it and get a producer that challenged Kirk.

+Ashley Wiltshire Dave has writing credit on the first album for a few songs and for one song in the 2nd album, mainly for riff ideas. Solos were completely redone by Kirk once he joined.
Dunn Jefferson 04 декабря 2016 года в 01:30 9
I know James has had a lot of ups and downs with his vocals BUT MAN he STILL sounds great. Honestly best he has ever sounded IMO. Great mix of singing, soft, hard, growls, and screaming.
Ultraspontane 05 декабря 2016 года в 05:20
Dunn Jefferson He sounds so good on Hardwired.
JRH 04 декабря 2016 года в 18:51
His old school vocals are so damn classic.. But I do agree, he is far more dynamic and has much more control now a days. Very impressive after all these years!
Dunn Jefferson 04 декабря 2016 года в 02:55
The 89 Seattle vocals do sound really good. I think though he is more dynamic now than ever which is also why I prefer his vocals now. To each their own.
aniki937 04 декабря 2016 года в 02:47
Best since long time, but not ever. I'm not that kind of old school hardcore fan at all, tbh I do prefer James nowadays voice, but early 90s he was powerful as hell like Seattle 89 or Mexico City 93 was his voice prime imho
Raimundo Lagos 03 декабря 2016 года в 17:04 3
Please guys play ManUNKindaaahhh Live! My favorite of the new album so far, the drums are so "Rush" like, vocal melodies very smart, powerful riffs and excellent guitar solo from Mr. Hammett!

If what this video shows represents the entire process then Kirk is right to complain for feeling excluded. His contribution was for this video was 15sec
Gutek09 07 декабря 2016 года в 18:05
over 200 riffs... lost for all we know that could've been the new Master of Puppets, Sanitarium or Creeping death :(
Alex Maiers 03 декабря 2016 года в 08:59
Partially due to losing his iPhone with a LOT of his demos, but also their approach to this record was really playing to everyone's known strengths: Lars & James steer the ship, Rob & Kirk contribute their flavors. Also worth noting that this is the first album since Kill 'Em All that Kirk doesn't have a single writing credit on :/

What KH are you talking about? You're making it sound like he's barely lucid.
Eddie Lack 04 декабря 2016 года в 11:35
Yes he lost his iPhone but, his brain is also cooked and can't recall anything... I have followed Metallica for over 30 years and KH can barely spit out a coherent sentence in 2016. Enough said.
fate_f30 03 декабря 2016 года в 22:22
I completely understand. I just noticed that Rob was sitting in on a lot of these session and helping with some writing. Just wondering why Kirk wasn't there....

aniki937 04 декабря 2016 года в 02:33 2
Let's be honest : we ALL are impatiently waiting for the making of Spit Out The Bone , the Master(piece) of Puppets track of the album !!!
And Metallica TV keep the suspense entire so the expectation worth it like never 😉🙂🤘😎🤘🎸
agung pramana 03 декабря 2016 года в 23:25 4
I know that Lars is not the best drummer out there..but somehow, I like how he plays drums..with his own characteristic and his unique style..have seen a lot of drummer playing Metallica's songs and better technically than Lars..but, it doesnt sounds like Lars..he sounds more human, un-flat with dynamic, unpredictable and all the flaw seems so wrong..but also perfect at the same time.
aniki937 04 декабря 2016 года в 02:51
Here comes revenge got one the best drums pattern of the album imo, in terms of versatility. I think he clearly raised his level on this album

Justin Roman 03 декабря 2016 года в 16:21 10
From these videos I understand that Lars and James create 95% of the songs and Rob the remaining 5%, while Kirk only plays the songs.
Connor Ladd 04 декабря 2016 года в 07:38
Kirk lost a phone with 250-ish riffs before they went to record, so a lot of what he could've contributed is missing. It's interesting to try and imaging how different the album would've been with his riffs.
Scott Brown 03 декабря 2016 года в 17:24
Zieekel I think James writes all the little doodles the short solos and Kirk writes all the long complicated ones
infloslinger 03 декабря 2016 года в 17:12
kirk's contributions are top notch guitar solos.
Zieekel 03 декабря 2016 года в 17:05
For this album anyways. Kirk still came up with the solos though, if I'm not mistaken.

It's very interesting to watch the work, thought, trial and error It can take to create a song. It must be even more difficult to decide on the exact sound and vocals to use which you personally like and what will end up on the album and hope fans will like it.

Raúl Steven Rangel Gil 02 декабря 2016 года в 20:39 16
The best song of Hardwired.
Claudiu Cojocaru 04 декабря 2016 года в 14:37
+Alexander Ramos Quite the music critique are we? Steven likes the song, I like the song, Metallica obviously likes the song(or otherwise it wouldn't have made it on the album), yet you know better right? It's you with the shit taste and lack of manners, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, who are you to say otherwise?
jear 02 декабря 2016 года в 22:00
+MIYAGI
yeah no shit, I was just surprised I've not seen anyone who shares it.

mediiskit 02 декабря 2016 года в 23:14 4
Where is Kirk and rob contributions? They should work again with bob rock
Martin Trajanovski 04 декабря 2016 года в 16:40
Yeah, only the lead parts. Not even the accompanied guitars or guitar fills and harmonizings
Scott Brown 03 декабря 2016 года в 17:19
mediiskit no way dude Bob rock did his part and did a good job on black and load but St. anger was shit and Bob should've said something about the sound
The Man 03 декабря 2016 года в 02:52
This is the only song on the album that has Rob listed as a credited writer.
K Bizzy 03 декабря 2016 года в 01:52
mediiskit this band has always been largely James and Lars doing the bulk of the writing. If I'm not mistaken, Kirk didn't even play on most of the albums back in the day aside from his solos.
Rodrigo Fernandez 03 декабря 2016 года в 01:22
during bob rock's time it was the same... look at "a year in the half in the life of metallica 1", it was actually only in Death Magnetic and St. Anger that 4 people were involved all the time... I do wonder how it was when Cliff was around
Matt sithKnight 03 декабря 2016 года в 12:35 1
I consider this one of the weaker songs on the album but appreciate it more after seeing this. I'm loving these 'making of' videos. \m/
Nathan Greenberg 04 декабря 2016 года в 17:35 1
"That's what my kids make fun of." That's what everyone makes fun of.

EmpyreanLightASMR 04 декабря 2016 года в 22:44 2
