Poland, what a marvelous place!
Filmed this one in Łódź, Krakow, Katowice & Rzesow, with audio from the album ’World War Live’ recorded in Łódź.
The gig in Łódź was on the Polish independence day. The audiences response to the opening track 40:1 and Mullback entering the stage waving the Polish flag was astounding . With fans like that, my job as cameraman and editor are made significantly easyer and so more fun =]

The Poles brought death and vengeance on equal terms from the air, from the ground and the sea. The highest scoring squadron, and, pilot in the RAF was a Pole. The Polish Airborne had to be burned and dug out like ticks in Market Garden as the punished the Germans. And Polish Armour, they faced Tigers and Panthers with equal bravery and hatred. Only the Stalingrad battle was bigger (in the term of City battles) I think. Besides polish soldier was present on every front of ww2 in Europe. Fromeast to west, north to south we were taking revenge on nazi's invaders.

As an historian, there is no common mesure between uprisings in France or Belgium (and I'm Belgian) and the Warsaw Uprising. Poland and Tcheckoslovakia, are, indeed, the two countries who were the closest to free themselves from the German without intervention of the Allied armies ( Tcheckoslovakia actually did ! ). Poland never surrendered as France (e.g.) did .... and Poland was ONE of the first countries to fall but not the first one, the first one was actually Austria in 1938. But, as you said, they were not the last to fall "politically" but they were certainly "spiritually" :)

It wasnt so much of "we" as it was the "Democrat Party", many of the generals (MacArthur, Patton, Eisenhower) wanted to keep marching to Moscow to end the problem before it started. But FDR trusted the Mustachioed Georgian.. FDR was not as smart as people remember..

It may be a year late in replying, but the betrayal came at the end of the war when we let the Soviets take countries that had been part of the old Russian empire, like Poland, rather than standing up to Stalin. Of course they may have assumed the cooperation durign the war would carry on rather than the cold war we actually got.

+Radish There are things to be proud of and things not to be proud of. You cannot sum up a countries whole history on one incident. The Allies royally screwed up with the start of the 2nd World War, but that does not mean those countries must forever be against you, or you against them.
