It is because of you that I know about this band and now I am a major fan. Thanks for the recommendation and they are great. :-P

I'm sorry if my opinion offends anyone but Polaris just doesn't hold up compared to altered state. This album I feel is a pinnacle in this genre of music. It's an instant classic and I'm sure I'll be jamming this 20 years from now
Jacob 14 декабря 2018 года в 12:35
I don't know... Altered State is good but it's the only TesseracT album that I listened to once and really have no desire to listen to again. Meanwhile, the albums with Dan are ones that I can listen to a thousand times over and never get sick of.
Sean Reitman 23 ноября 2018 года в 16:15
TheDonkeyFLOPPER I found tesseract in 2018, and I find them both to be incredible albums. I like the contrast in vocalist styles. All around life changing band
Matt Martinez 20 ноября 2018 года в 17:50
I'm with you, @TheDonkeyFLOPPER. I liked One and listened to it quite a bit, but when Altered State came out, I was blown away. Part of the reason is because I'll always prefer melodic vocals to screaming, but something about the composition of the songs themselves made them a lot more captivating. Aside from that, I prefer Ashe O'Hara to Daniel Tompkins, and I will forever lament the fact that he is no longer part of the band. My Google Play Music count says it all: 210 plays for Altered State, 41 for Polaris, 21 for One, and a whopping 3 for Sonder.
Jaydee Verhoeven 17 октября 2018 года в 21:26
I can only stand this album instrumental.
NATO 29 сентября 2018 года в 03:11
I like them all the same, but Altered State has really grown on me recently. It's where the band found their groove.
Jepfrankie 27 июня 2015 года в 15:00 88
Stop the Ashe vs. Dan arguments. I want Amos vs. Hugh Grant arguments.
Maurits 29 августа 2018 года в 20:09
and dont forget the Aragon vs james arguments......

Is anyone else concerned about the fact that their band name is Tesseract (a 4th Dimensional cube), and that they're performing at Sphere Studios? (a Sphere is a 3rd Dimensional Circle).
RafikiafReKo 26 декабря 2018 года в 01:41
Isnt a sphere 2 dimensions?

Ashe's voice is just...I can't. Absolutely incredible.
Harry Adair 07 января 2019 года в 22:44
So sad about how his amazing performances in the studio weren't translated well in the live shows. Such a heavenly voice.
aesthetic fantasy 06 мая 2016 года в 01:23

I watch this video over and over, solely for 13:48. Ashe's face says a lot in that singular moment. He exhales, and when he does, it's like there's still a weight heavy on his shoulders that he just can't seem to shake off.
Joe DiCosola 31 октября 2018 года в 03:06
Happy to see other people noticed this moment too. You can tell this song means something to him. I'd say this is most likely my favorite track off this album for dozens and dozens of reasons. I'd love to hear what this song means to Ashe too.
Richard Handler 23 июля 2016 года в 22:27
I don't know what it is about your comment but it always sticks in my mind when I come to this video. Such an emotional song and your comment ties in perfectly with that. Someone make this top comment!
Richard Handler 14 февраля 2016 года в 19:40
Each time I watch this video I scroll down to find this one comment. Ashe once stated that Resist was a song very close to him as it was based off a personal experience. This comment illustrates that perfectly, thank you
moxshyfter 12 декабря 2014 года в 13:35 555
This entire album is phenomenal, and Ashe is by far one of my favorites vocalists.

This music is perfect without the growling and screaming from their previous album. There's absolutely nothing wrong with growling or screaming - I just think this powerful melody vocal style works much better.
Miguel Gutiérrez 05 июля 2018 года в 17:23
If you can pull off this quality cleans, screaming is just trivial. I personally enjoy an awful lot the combo they have going on here with the heaviness and technicality of the instruments and the cleanliness and difficulty of the vocals

Dare I say Altered State is the most cohesive masterpiece since 10,000 Days?
Yes, because it is an opinion but a pretty well thought out one.
It is rare to find an album like that.
Diego Pujol 19 ноября 2018 года в 21:27
The Mountain by Haken is up there IMO.
Rippler 11 ноября 2018 года в 15:10

I can not write well in English, but wanted to leave here a few words. This album is one of the best things I ever heard in my my life. It is the purest emotion transferred a song I've ever felt. Daniel is a great singer is the face of the Tesseract - but Ashe put such a great emotion on this album that, and in my view, no one will reach. Every melody of the guitars, bass and drums marking - comes into perfect timing. I hope the band continue like this forever and that one day come to Brazil. Sure I'll cross hundreds of km to see the concert.

Massa.
slandshark 21 декабря 2016 года в 23:00
I had the same reaction the first time I listened to it. I have the same reaction after listening to it regularly ever since.

This is likely the best music I have ever heard. And I don't mean that as an opinion. I mean, it is literally the best music created. Everything about it is amazing.

All the harmonies are done by a real person though. It's like saying any song with an echo effect should be multi-tracked for each echo otherwise it isn't natural.
vertigopulse 19 февраля 2016 года в 00:59 46
I'm sorry but -1 point for Tesseract losing this singer. I was SO looking forward to another album with this guy as the vocalist. Polaris is good, but not as good as this. I wonder if its because of the singer?
Taylor Hoornaert 20 января 2019 года в 07:04
+Anne Alma Dan their second or third vocalist. Granted, it was before they released One so I can see where that comes from.

+teehundeart exactly. I miss the drama of the first 2 records. the newer albums are kinda boring in that sense. Although Seven Names from polaris works great for me
teehundeart 02 октября 2018 года в 23:07
+kimseniorb i really like Sonder, don't get me wrong. But it's not their best work. It doesn't push the band in a new direction and is rather small in scale

Anyone know if they play any songs off of Altered State live these days? I'd love to hear from all 4 albums, but it would be a shame to not hear anything from A.S. just because Ashe isn't in the band anymore.
Alberto Mártir Rodriguez 12 мая 2018 года в 21:33
I saw them perform this song in Cleveland Ohio years ago touring with Katatonia.

I did! 1st time seeing em in Aus. Pretty sure he was still somewhat drank from the night b4 n yakt off stage lol, that sed...still decent👌 Pulled off Dans screams from the 1st album stuff too.

Donnie Frixione 22 сентября 2016 года в 01:11
Agreed, it is an incredible album. It really is a shame they didn't finish the studio sessions for the rest of the album. Live Ashe did a great job as well when I saw them.
Shinji Core 02 ноября 2014 года в 21:47 36
In my opinion, Ashe was perfect for this album. Altered State is an amazing album =)
Rubolf Guitar 11 апреля 2016 года в 23:25 26
stop being judgemental, both singers are awesome just pretty different voices and persons. each of them has their own unique feel. awesome performance!
Alex Oblique 10 февраля 2018 года в 21:15
Well in my humble opinion and I think a lot of people will agree with me this was their masterpiece! Most balanced album and I think a big part played the vocals! I mean he is pure magic from the patterns the notes everything! The other guy is a great singer but doesn‘t have his feeling and touch on music!
Ryan Lawrence 01 июня 2016 года в 06:58
I can't stop listening to this album or Polaris. Favorite albums of all time. Honestly, just listening to them both for the first time, I couldn't tell the difference... I didn't know they were different. But when I knew I couldn't unhear the differences. Both are amazing though.
Sipher Sipher 21 февраля 2015 года в 20:36 10
I love the face the singer makes at the end of the high part at the very end of the song. Hes just like "Holy fuck i just hit that"

If they go back to raspy, screaming vocals, i'm done with 'em...
Nyororo Meowelas 30 октября 2018 года в 08:44
+Theodore Schantz What? You can't just lump us all into the ashe fanclub. I got into this band because of concealing fate, and I think the intrumentation across all of their albums is pretty noteworthy. Polaris may be a bit underwhelming but still.
Kalupz 08 февраля 2015 года в 18:12
I know there's already enough bands that are doing that right know. Boring djent riffs and screaming vocals...
Angel Baez 29 октября 2014 года в 02:01
Agreeed I think the mix of melody and scream or growls works really well, like BTBAM
MrJay7777 24 октября 2014 года в 04:15
i don't care if they hang on it or not , just made a statement, if they would rather scream that's fine it's their expression but Ashe is better . i just won't listen to or purchase it ...
Robert Fennis 16 октября 2014 года в 14:54
I heard in the latest interview that they aren't really a big fan of the screaming vocals so I think you won't be hearing that on their new album.
Ivan Olmedo 08 февраля 2015 года в 21:49 37
Excelent ghost notes, damn Postones its so good!
Gage Welfley 28 июня 2014 года в 07:15 18

also... wish this "live" video was actually live....

there's a thing called overdubs bud
Subirony 27 марта 2018 года в 02:40
The Knight Republic I know from having listened to these songs quite a bit that nothing, aside from the backing vocals is overdubbed. There are very minor differences from the original recording but they're present.
kaingates 15 ноября 2014 года в 14:14
+Chris Palevich Yeah but back then people was not bound by the metronome, if you listen to the early albums of the mentioned artist you can hear they often miss the beat
Robert Fennis 16 октября 2014 года в 15:00
+fru1tbooter14 I saw them not too long ago with Daniel and they started with Proxy. I was standing there with a group of people and about 2 minutes into the song everybody was simply flabbergasted by the quality of Daniel's voice. Its absolutely insane how good he is live and how close he is able to go to Ashes voice without being to far away from himself. I've seen Ashe too and he too is incredible.
Twitch Jedi 30 августа 2014 года в 18:53
Just as a reminder, Allman Bro's, Gov't Mule, The Band, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Mama's & the Papa's, The Rolling Stones, Cream, Hendrix, The Doors (too many more to list) & many more contemporary artists, The Ramones, Black Flag, Anthrax, (some) Slayer, (some) Testament, Exodus, RUSH (!!!!!), Soundgarden, Mushroomhead, Mudvayne (only LD-50) .. how long do you want me to go on ...

All recorded in one take. Hit the red button, play what they had then hit the in-studio "Stop" button. Hence the need for a "PRODUCER". There were double tracks for some vocals or solos, yet most bands had 2 guitars for solos & didn't need backing vocals because there were at least 3 other possible back up singers that could sing during the original track; the 2 guitar players, bass player, drummer, or maybe even the drummer.

Its obvious that some of you feel that everything needs correction, thats merely deflection for your cheating & lying. Music is an art .. don't pretend to know what you're talking about unless you've been in the studio, making music, on your dime. Professional musicians know what they are doing. It is why it took a long time to get a record deal back then along with going on tour forever before anyone even knew you. No fake instruments, fake machines, fake anything .. just real music.

It is entirely 100% possible that what you see is not only live but the actual track. Or not ?
MF Kitten 03 марта 2014 года в 21:22 27
that's a mighty smooth capo drop.
Richard Handler 11 ноября 2014 года в 23:59 27
I like Dan's work with WMBB and Skyharbor but I've never really been able to get to grips with him in Tesseract; I just don't think he fits with the band. In my opinion this is Tesseract in their prime, this entire album really was a pleasure to listen to and I wish Ashe could have had a longer run with the band. Even if the new album has a lot of clean vocals and atmospheric soundscapes, I don't think it will be able to compete with Altered State. I'll still be giving the new album a listen though, regardless
Pete Samhammer 21 августа 2018 года в 05:21
We haven't even seen what this band is capable of, imo.
Lobo34 16 июня 2018 года в 08:55
Listen to Tourniquet, Phoenix, Seven Names, King, Juno and Mirror Image, that songs made me pick Dan as my favorite vocalist in just 3 months
Jonathan Ratliff 03 мая 2018 года в 03:40
Andrew Huddleston it's awesome, but dang dude. Listening to Dan live on these YouTube videos makes me depressed. Like on deception concealing fate part 2, he dies everytime it gets to those passionate screams. At least Ashe had enough balls to actually hit the notes.

That being said I can't stop listening to Luminary.

This the greatest 15 minutes of newer music out currently, everyone else tries so hard to be the most technical for no reason, instead of focusing on making good songs. Much respect Tesseract.

I'm confused by the comment as this is Ashe
Dustin Nelson 01 августа 2014 года в 06:15 21
I love this guy as the singer. Actually, I like him better than the first guy. He has cooler vocal runs in my opinion. Plus, this band sounds better without the screaming.
Robert Fennis 28 октября 2014 года в 09:36
+Dustin Nelson exactly their point too ;) they feel it was an unnecessary thing yo get into the scene and it was never really their style. They love the melodic approach they did in Altered State's
Dustin Nelson 28 октября 2014 года в 07:56
if that's the case I'm extremely excited for the new album. Dan is an amazing vocalist as well but there's already a ton of bands that do scream / clean vocals in the djent world and the newest album from tesseract is what I feel separates them from the majority of the other bands in this genre
Robert Fennis 16 октября 2014 года в 15:05
The more melodic approach to the music wasn't all due to Ashe but also a unanimous band decision so you can expect a lot of cleans and more melodic music like this but than with Dan and without the harsh vocals. Next album must be great
daiselol 11 апреля 2015 года в 08:05 9
Ashe is such a good vocalist and is sexy as hell but man his teeth are so stereotypically british
drag0nfly_girl 19 декабря 2018 года в 02:08
KTV Haha, me too! :)
KTV 18 декабря 2018 года в 11:55

daiselol They’re normal teeth everywhere but the US.
Andrew victorino 06 декабря 2014 года в 17:30 16
This album was perfectly pieced together, and Ashe really couldn't have complemented the elements in a more magical way. The climactic energy and the way it forms is just perfect. This will be a tough album to top for sure.
Shinji Core 19 марта 2015 года в 19:54
Totally agree
GetScaredGaming - Henry Wylie 03 июля 2014 года в 01:01 6
These guys have a really interesting unique sound. Kind of remind me of a softer Periphery.
Angel Baez 29 октября 2014 года в 02:00
Does it remind you of Between the Buried and Me? Melody wise of course!
dominic parisi 27 октября 2014 года в 23:42

I really like alesana as well, I see stars.... not so much lol
Meh 26 августа 2014 года в 02:29
After first hearing bands like i see stars or alesana i hated high pitched clean vocals, but this guy is just fucking great. His voice fits the music perfectly.

Been playin music for 43 years. This is one of the best written songs I've ever heard.
Jane Tusim 10 октября 2014 года в 23:01 79
I liked this vocalist more :( There would be nothing bad if they had two vocalists
Jon Snow 24 марта 2018 года в 10:28
lol this is amazing.. when a 15 year old 3 years ago is much more mature than a 35 year old who still think he's cool listening to "metal" grow the fuck up lol
hellooomotto 21 февраля 2018 года в 04:01
tes420 I've never read so much metal elitism and neckbeard cringyness in a single comment before. How the fuck can you say someone is narrow minded then go on to complain about a band not having screams and heavy tones in it, don't you think thats only extremely hypocritical? This is fucking art, not everyone like the same boring ass riffs played over and over like yourself obviously does.
iloveheavymetal1 24 марта 2015 года в 05:12
they should definately have two cause of all the harmonies going on in this. would sound amazing ;0
Jesse Graham 22 марта 2015 года в 03:45
+Ethan Jahn I agree entirely. Some people jam "chick bands" for the sheer thrill that its a woman when they are completely missing the point
Ethan Jahn 23 февраля 2015 года в 02:49
not even remotely my point haha. just saying we should let people sound however the hell they want and stop the stigma against women in metal. you're allowed to not like it, but don't shit on them because they're women or if they're more feminine dudes. that's called misogyny (not that you're doing that, just in general)

also don't trivialize musicians by calling them "chick bands". yes they /are/ but calling them that focuses more on their gender than the music they make. gender is irrelevant as long as you're making cool music lol
Reviewed Later 11 января 2016 года в 19:27 14
The production of this video is almost as beautiful as the music itself
Enrique Sebastian 16 августа 2014 года в 21:13 11
I know many people won't be with my opinion. But Ashe was the man for TesseracT. I really feel bad that he's out of the band. Altered is probably one of my most favorite albums ever. Daniel was really fine in Skyharbor, i like both voice skills but as i say, Ashe was the man :/
SirUncleCid 21 ноября 2016 года в 00:01 18
Didn't know you could naturally harmonize your voice live...
Stefan Vrachev 20 мая 2018 года в 18:22
SirUncleCid not every band. This live though is very processed.
Paul Rangitutia 04 февраля 2018 года в 23:39
It's his voice on the backing tracks and his voice live . Therefore harmonizing with himself
Paul Rangitutia 04 февраля 2018 года в 23:38
SirUncleCid yes they can harmonize win themselves live because of the backing tracks
Svanur Gretarsson 18 января 2017 года в 18:01
no of course not :) haha ( just meaning when other band members are singing to), but there are people that can harmonize themselves like throat singing
Liam Yates 20 августа 2014 года в 20:03 3
i listened to the album version. then i listened to the instrumental version. then i realised, despite the girly vocals, this guy made this album. his voice ggave everything so much texture. cant stop listening to it now
Nic Alt 16 сентября 2016 года в 19:33 25
This song is on level with Tool.
Igor Parcheta 26 июня 2018 года в 14:08
I always get tool vibes from this band, its like if tool had a djent baby it would be tesseract
Will B 15 июня 2018 года в 07:32
Jon Snow no way man, tool are far too original to just start making djent. I can't really distinguish this song from a load of other similar bands, tool have always been instantly recognisable
Jon Snow 07 марта 2018 года в 16:09
Nic Alt yes maybe better and this is coming from a tool fan who played their songs a lot live. but i wouldnt be surprised if tool would do something similar in their new upcoming album. tool goes djent would be a dream come true
Mateus Thiago 07 апреля 2015 года в 22:59 4
I have never actually seen the band before and I always thought the vocalist was a woman. Is this really his voice all of the time?
Alex Wilson 01 июля 2015 года в 11:23
+Mateus Thiago They have gone between two male singers, Dan and Ashe
ZayneThyler 26 февраля 2016 года в 03:19 8
I usually can't stand songs over 5 minutes, but this song is just so perfect from beginning to end. Altered State is within my top 10 albums now. This is just beautiful.

give a try to opeth, their early works had mostly 10+ min songs

That bass sounds killer. There's not many metal bands with those clean and percusive bass lines that I really enjoy. Vocals are on point too. well, the full band is amazing.
Patrick Wilkins 03 ноября 2017 года в 14:59 3
The singer looks like the community college kid that still hangs out at the high school.

Ashe > Dan.
Lobo34 27 марта 2018 года в 10:42
Ashe - Dan
Branden N 02 марта 2018 года в 04:14
Ashe has a bigger range, but Dan is more versatile, better live and has more power to his voice. Both great vocalists and Ashe was a great part of Tesseract (so glad they went with him instead of Elliot coleman)
Geno Melendez 05 ноября 2016 года в 03:18
Ashe has a pretty voice, Dan too has a good singing voice too, not on the level as Ashe, but Dan would bring that hard shit when the music got heavy.......also Ashe can hack being in a metal band  which is why he isn't in Tesseract anymore

I don't understand the slagging off of the singer. He did a really good job here. Plus, the way this band layers their vocals adds to the atmospheric quality and keeps them from being a typical, boring prog metal band.
OfWhatsToCome 01 августа 2014 года в 16:07 22
I prefer Ashe to Daniel, not that he's a bad singer and is pretty good with Skyharbor, but this style suits what I'd want in a band like this. Harsh vocals don't fit this style imo.
Anthony Mazzurco 16 октября 2014 года в 15:14
Some of the stuff with out the screaming is good. I've gotten use to it with songs like acceptance
Robert Fennis 16 октября 2014 года в 15:03
They probaply won't be doing screams with Daniel on their next album so expect Daniels cleans.
Anthony Mazzurco 25 августа 2014 года в 05:22
+Constantine Gawain Third this. I found these guys from an Animals as leaders search, and listened to them with Daniel and They sound better with this guy. With Daniel it's borderline screamo in a way.

Also, that Hugh Grant really knows how to play bass

Cire Pohsibly 22 февраля 2014 года в 02:29
Apperently, each segment on the album was recorded at a different studio, atleast at a different one than Sphere Studios here. And we should also expect to see similar videos for those segments. Stoked!

This band's albums are my holy music. My hymns. I dare not stop the song prematurely. I sit and listen in reverence.
Mana-Ramp-Matoran 06 января 2015 года в 23:25 22
I'm so glad Dan is back, but man it'll be a damned crying shame if they never do any Altered State Material during their sets. Both Ashe and Dan are amazing vocalists, but I wonder what Dan singing these songs would sound like. Wish there was some proshot material of that.
Tom Kaduk 08 апреля 2015 года в 16:40
+3rdeye88 I saw Tesseract opening for Animals As Leaders a few months ago, and Dan did just fine as far as cleans are concerned. However his refusal to scream during older songs really annoyed me, as did his overall diva-like behaviour.
iloveheavymetal1 24 марта 2015 года в 04:36
there is a vid of dan doin this exact song online man. its live but still good. i like this guy better.
Shorjok 19 февраля 2015 года в 00:49
Never thought I'd see you here!
Saw them live in November with AAL and yes, they did do pretty much half of the album live with Dan. Needless to say it was great.
MattSD Pell 05 февраля 2015 года в 16:21
Dan has a better technique, and it seems that prog/djent is his natural form.
I prefer Ashe's voice, because it's more foreigner, in this genre.
But this is a matter of taste. I guess that not all can bear the live executions, a cause of their tiring way of life.
Respect for both, anyway.
I do hope that TesseracT will continue with this sound/concept of mixing elements.
Juan Carlos Hinojo 29 января 2015 года в 21:12
I saw tesseract live with Dan and it was amazing... I was anxious to hear him singing proxy first to see if it would be good enough... But man.... It was phenomenal right away, I like ashe alot!!!! But man... Dan in skill is completely another level
Levi Atkinson 27 октября 2016 года в 17:29 6
heard this live in New York a couple nights ago they kicked ass!
Horatio Huffnagel 27 ноября 2016 года в 19:50

I literally just started listening to tesseract. Always saw their name but, never clicked. Greatest decision ever.
snowBlind 16 октября 2014 года в 05:40
I remember listening to Tesseract when it was basically just the one guy (or was it two way back then) uploading stuff on the forums.. HCAF I think. OR maybe it was just someone posting and talking about it on HCAF..and then Rig-Talk. Then yearrrrrsssss and years later I'm listening to a band on Spotify and Tesseract was a 'similar artist'. Mind blown. This track in particular is amazing, it's too bad he's not the vocalist anymore. I really dug this guy.

glad he's gone. Elliot Coleman was amazing, and it's a shame he wasn't the singer for Altered State, his version of Eclipse was so much better. Either way, I'm stoked Dan is back. Dan has a much more enjoyable range.
Adrian Burns 28 июня 2014 года в 19:15
I really like Elliot, it was weird oddly enough but I love Elliot's jazz and somewhat RnB background, fitting with TesseracT. It's bliss.

Seems they are the same boat as polyphia. Absolutely amazing album this one. One of the landmark prog albums of time
Blueskythinking 05 сентября 2015 года в 20:24
Not really polyphia are more guitar shred oriented where as tesseract are more about the song writing
Garret Flipper 10 января 2015 года в 05:15 15
Why did they have to let him go? Probably the best vocalist I've seen in forever.
Petar Pavasović 23 июля 2018 года в 14:01
Blueskythinking How do people come with this conclusions? Where is your source? Amos said it wasn't working and that's it...
Blueskythinking 05 сентября 2015 года в 20:43
They didn't let him go they were happy with him but Ashe wanted to something that was a bit closer to pop while tesseract wanted to continue what they were doing with altered state it's not tesseracts fault nor is it ashes..
Emile Joubert 08 января 2015 года в 08:47 2
Altered State has more of an ambient feel as One has more of a metal feel, but altered state just somehow did it for me
Cameron Fischer 07 марта 2014 года в 07:50 56
I can understand how some metalheads might not like Tesseract as they have such a jazz fusion flavor mixed in with progressive metal and ambient sounds. Such a random mix that displays true musical skill. They are good at what they do that's for sure.
FatGuyFragging 02 мая 2014 года в 01:01
calling stuff jazz because its polyrythmic and modulated does not make it jazz tbh.
Chris Bourland 11 апреля 2014 года в 01:40
Teseract has about as much jazz as the sex pistols
Mehdi Alami 22 марта 2014 года в 00:59
Meshuggah maybe no ?
Daniel Stuart 11 марта 2014 года в 22:45
+Mattias Ulmestrand Oh yeah, they use a hell of a lot of metric modulations and polyrhythms, which are commonly found in, but not exclusive to, jazz music. It works great, and I absolutely love the album.
Mattias Ulmestrand 11 марта 2014 года в 22:00
I agree. Whilst they may not sound very jazzy to some, they sure enough apply alot of jazzy theory and their approach is pretty jazz-like if you ask me. Nevertheless it's an insanely great style of music and that's what matters, right people? :)
