the critics called this song "uninspiring". honestly, the way i see it, a song doesn't need to be inspiring in order to be good. as long as the music's beautiful and the collab sounds really good, that's what matters.

The production is what elevates the song. On paper, it's a bit of a dud. The lyrics sound unfinished. The lines are repetitive and barely give enough information to even create a scene. They made an entire bridge out of "You stole my star. La la la la la la la. La la la la la la la. You stole my star. La la la la la la la..." That won't win you a Grammy or critical fanfare.
The melody and production carries the whole shebang. It's actually really, really empty and void of originality. I don't know how to describe how Coldplay's songs feel sometimes. I mean, I guess you could say psychedelic but I don't feel that sort of trippy vibe. Their songs feel kind of... IDK fantastical? Like they were written for fantasy characters and landscapes.

Not bad. I would have preferred that Moving to Mars made it on the album as opposed to this but I can see what they were going for when all is said and done and I can respect that decision. Interestingly enough, it's the only song I've ever heard that includes Rihanna where her voice isn't eardrum piercingly annoying. I must say I especially like the synth work and the beefy kick.

The lyrics aren't bad. They're simple and they still give off a strong message. As an experimental album, this song was really amazing in my opinion. Rihanna and Coldplay really did great together.
