The greatest joke you don’t explain
The choke of laughing has left you half hanged
The moment comes and goes but most the day is slow

Good, bad or just getting worse
A sea of faceless murmurs
The crowd likes you like their kid brother

Can’t you feel it spilling out the sides?
The need for change you can’t quite define
Hey now, don’t take it to the heart
Hang down and sing why live when you can die?

Your shining savior walks beside you
Scuffing your new hallway in black soled shoes
The model never worked, the "life size" crashed and burned

Good, bad it’s just getting worse
The days don’t hold me closely
But the matte blue of a clear sky is crippling

Can’t you feel it spilling out the sides?
The need for change you can’t quite define
Hey now, don’t take it to the heart
Hang down and sing why live when you can die?

There’s not a better night

So take this perfect moment, few and far between
I’m nothing but young possibilities
And still I’m tied to the tracks of being anything

The clock in your room says 11:11
Kiss your pointer finger and press against it

’Cuz false hope is true heaven
Your false hope is my true heaven

It’d be a good show if I didn’t already know the joke

Can’t you feel it spilling out the sides?
The need for change you can’t quite define
Hey now, don’t take it to the heart
Hang down and sing why live when you can die?

Congratulations on signing to Rise Records Weezer!

Jokes aside, very chill and a unique sound. I'd love to hear more. I'd drink to them.
Suburban Waste 03 октября 2018 года в 01:42
Youd drink to them? Lol whats that even mean. I dont wanna know a bar that plays this.
Marish Querfin Buenavista 31 марта 2015 года в 21:06
Exactly! My thought too
brockhampilton 12 сентября 2014 года в 12:04 19
I want this band back. So bad.
Devastated I only discovered them during this hiatus.
Matt Moss 16 ноября 2015 года в 15:50
+NigelGrab You're correct on the hiatus. Jimmy, their vocalist, posted about it a few months.
brockhampilton 08 апреля 2015 года в 03:19
Neither have I, that's why I assumed their hiatus :( I don't know whether it's something to do with his voice or just the band more generally but I really want them to come back
Mikael Schwartz 07 апреля 2015 года в 23:44
Oh they're on hiatus? :/ Haven't been able to find any news about/from them so I have no idea what's going on.
ZayneThyler 06 февраля 2015 года в 18:59 34
In 10 years I bet he's going to look like Bill Nye.
Pill Cosby and The Roofies 31 мая 2017 года в 17:45
ZayneThyler I think he'll look like Jimmy but 10 years older.
Mizter Meschie 14 ноября 2016 года в 00:49
That's not a bad thing lol
Millie Kentner 08 ноября 2016 года в 06:31
That's fucking funny
hysteriks 12 ноября 2013 года в 16:47 4
This sounds like Motion City Soundtrack. It's not bad, but cleary it's not doing it for me as much as the old stuff.
Sam Bedichek 11 ноября 2013 года в 04:21 9
Welcome to the comments.
Prepare for tons of arrogant fans posting their irrelevant opinions on the topic of PBC's new album
Alvin Appiah 23 декабря 2013 года в 17:42 4
Voice change was out of his control. Band still rips regardless.
Pablo Horteg 22 января 2014 года в 04:04 5
The musicality of the band is still great, and if anything more advanced.  Nice guitar melodies, sometimes complex rhythms.  Definitely progressing and getting more advanced/nuanced.  But the vocals...  sometimes they work and sometimes they don't, but I miss the old style.  This is still good music though, just different.
Alex Z 01 мая 2014 года в 11:36
I dunno man..
kyle abent 29 января 2014 года в 21:27
The vocals just BARELY remind me of a mixture of the gaslight anthem - american slang... and... all time low - remembering sunday.. as for the lead and rhythm this is spot on.
Killing Art 08 июля 2015 года в 20:22 5
who doesnt love a black tile thing for there birthday
Jonathan Klingvall 07 ноября 2013 года в 15:19 2
I gotta say, that even though the "Blood Balloon and "Upsatate Mosquito" are two damn good tracks, this is the best one so far from the new album in my opinion!
Jonathan Klingvall 19 ноября 2013 года в 22:34
+jsh020 So I buy is one of my favs too. And Siouxie Jean. Have you heard "Saw blade"? It's on the Blood Balloon 7" B-side.
jsh020 19 ноября 2013 года в 21:41
I actually enjoy the song so i buy more anything, its the one that seems to work the best without the raspy vocals
J.T. Madden 10 ноября 2013 года в 01:35 1
I won't lie, the more I listen to this song the more I like it. I love this song really. Sure, it's different, but hell, let a band change without getting up all in their face. PBC is still PBC.
Vinny Ptak 23 ноября 2013 года в 01:33 1
loving the new sound, i read what jimmy wrote about his voice, and it's not like he really owed anyone an explanation, so it's really awesome that he put it out there for the world to know but I honestly don't hate the change at all, even if it weren't a necessity, I would still appreciate the music for what it is
Daniel Perez 04 декабря 2015 года в 02:03 3
i swear, i googled polar bear and then "polar bear club" came on! Nice song though :3.
Eliza Wagman 08 ноября 2013 года в 14:58 5
guess I'm alone in this but I love the new sound!
Jay Chapman 09 июня 2017 года в 20:00
Eliza Wagman there's definitely something to be said for clean vocals, especially since Jimmy has good melody.

amorningofsleep 15 ноября 2013 года в 16:44 14
With the vocal change, they now sound like every other boring pop punk band out there.
Jay Chapman 09 июня 2017 года в 14:51
I'm sure there's at least one genre you listen to that's the same story.
Pill Cosby and The Roofies 31 мая 2017 года в 17:47
Andrew de Leon speaking of queers. The Queers are pop punk and they don't sound like anybody
Andrew de Leon 17 ноября 2013 года в 08:25
+amorningofsleep You're right... I'm sorry dude.
amorningofsleep 16 ноября 2013 года в 17:35
+Andrew de Leon That's not a very pop punk thing to say.
Andrew de Leon 15 ноября 2013 года в 21:32
fuck you queer
Sean Conroy 25 марта 2015 года в 22:26 2
what did they give the kid im totally lost
Maarten Van Gestel 24 апреля 2015 года в 08:00
+Sean Conroy Materialistic presents, that create false happiness, the parents live in the consumption-age. They always want more. While the kid wants a life filled with passion, excitement, memories,... To rephrase the song, why do his parents live their empty lives instead of going out and feeling alive?

This isn't that bad.  just different form their old stuff
RyRos88 07 ноября 2013 года в 03:29 2
Is it just me or do the albums produced by Will Yipp all sound pretty similar?  Turnover, Title Fight, Man Overboard, Daylight and now PBC - all their new albums have something similar to them. Not saying its a bad thing but they all just have a similar vibe to them
TGKira 13 ноября 2013 года в 00:18 1
Thank Rise for this non-generic band.
TGKira 28 ноября 2013 года в 00:15

OLD MUSIC GOOOOOOD NEW MUSIC BAAAAAD wow never heard that before.  this is what EVERYONE SAYS for every single album these guys have ever put out.  they even wrote a song about all about how stupid it is.  somehow they keep getting better and better and you keep getting older and older
Christian Kenworthy 12 ноября 2013 года в 02:22 1
how are these guys signed?
lassilipstick 27 ноября 2013 года в 22:51
Contrary to everything you listen to, bands without swoops get signed too!  No joke!

It was so weird when I was listening to this and my clock said 11:11 at the exact right moment. I did not plan it, I'm not just ''saying this because it would be a funny coincidence'', it actually happened and it was indeed a funny coincidence :P
Or destiny o.o
TJames TD 11 ноября 2013 года в 06:03 1
Digging these new songs and proud of Jimmy for stepping out of his comfort zone with the vocal change. I know he mentioned in a previous interview he wasn't so confident with his clean vocals so he always stuck with his raspy vocals. Can't wait to get my pre-order bundle.
Rodney way 19 марта 2015 года в 21:01 1
MiguelItUp 08 ноября 2013 года в 00:44 1
I can't get into this at all.  It's really unfortunate, I mean, I never would've expected something like this.  Not many bands completely change their vocal style.  I know a lot of people think Jimmy changed his vocals because he possibly messed up his throat, but I can't help but think that's not the fact here.  Especially when Jimmy is the only original member left in the band.  When they signed to Rise, I kind of laughed about it, but was still optimistic.  But now they sound like they're doing what they can to fit the sound of the other bands on the label.  It's been real Polar Bear Club, thanks for shows over the years and The Redder The Better and Sometimes Things Just Disappear.
Matt Rice 19 ноября 2013 года в 17:09
Not sure if you've seen, but Jimmy released a statement saying that he is, in fact, not really able to sing like he used to anymore. Bummer, but at least he's real with us.
Paul Guck 08 ноября 2013 года в 03:14
Chris is an original member too. I was at their first show and have known those two dudes since we were kids.
D C 26 июля 2015 года в 01:31 4
I used to always think I would like this band so much more if their vocals were different. The old vocals have since grown on me but this is fucking killer.
Colt Reload 26 февраля 2014 года в 21:45 6
no one comment about bad religion?
slimwashere 07 ноября 2013 года в 19:27 2
Well obviously the older fans are going to be disappointed because they've come to expect something from the band that they found in the older material. This band won most of it's early and loyal fans on Jimmy's raspy voice, awesome non-standard rhythm section work, cool complex lead guitar parts, and an overall sound that managed to be punkish, hardcore, and pretty at the same time. It was difficult to find another band that sounded like their older stuff or even define a concrete genre to place them in. That's why I loved them; they were raw, they conveyed emotion through their sound, and most importantly they were original. They have since left behind most of those elements, except for the interesting rhythm changes and accenting (at least just from what they've released from this new record so far) For some reason they got adopted by the fans of the more generic pop-punk bands and began getting lumped in with them, despite sounding much heavier than those bands and writing much more intricate songs. I feel like this album is them actively trying to fit in with the scene that adopted them and made them more 'mainstream' for lack of a better adjective. And in all honesty, any old PBC fans should have seen this coming after Clash Battle Guilt Pride. They openly said in interviews they were moving away from their old sound and purposely trying to bring more of a pop structure into their songwriting. Most of that album was essentially generic and simple pop punk songs with badass vocals over it. The rhythms became more standard, the main chord progressions became simpler and more expected, and the leads were dumbed down in relation to the previous work. Looking at CBGP, this album actually seems like a step forward in terms of songwriting. The instrumentals are much more complex and closer to the older material, albeit still sounding much more 'happy' and upbeat, or major scale for lack of a better description. But the vocals!!!!! I feel like I'm waiting for the part when his powerful vocals are going to kick in and blow my mind but it never comes. Now the argument that he is trying to preserve his voice from the damage incurred over years of earthshaking yells is valid, although I have not seen anything where he says that is the sole reason for this shift. Plus, many other punk and hardcore bands sing in raspy yells and show no signs of stopping. The Flatliners toured damn near every day for the past 11 years with Chris Cresswell yelling his brains out the whole time and he has not shown any signs of weakness at shows or on the records. I know many people, myself include, prefer a more raspy and forced voice because it just conveys so much power and emotion. I used to get chills when Jimmy does the big yell at the end of "Resent and Resistance" or when he jumps up an octave in the middle of "His Devotee" I feel none of that from the clean vocals, which I think is most people problem with it. I just see this as a deliberate decision to pander more to the general pop-punk audience that clamors for nasally clean vocals and that is why I'm disappointed with this sound and the new record. It pains me because the lyrics are good as well. I just can't help but wonder how much better this song might be if Jimmy was pushing his voice like before...but the world will never know.
Alswo Ward 12 января 2019 года в 05:40 0
How is MCR isnt an emo band but this is
SoupedUpGaming 07 ноября 2013 года в 13:57 0
+InciteFire that is changing your sound from a punkish to rock granted you should like them either way if you are a fan of the band but it did change its not to save a voice because if you're good at screaming it's not a huge concern as long as you make good music.
Roger Humpwhick 09 января 2018 года в 21:04 0
This sucks, like you took something that could have been cool and cleaned it up and polished it to try to breakthrough the mainstream
Briana Boyd 07 ноября 2013 года в 18:18 0
I like this song better than the first song they streamed from the new record. I could get used to it but I still prefer the old stuff.
Matt Facey 07 ноября 2013 года в 11:08 0
It's not just the vocals that are different though. The whole sound is so different to what made them special before. They just sound like another pop punk band.
MiguelItUp 19 ноября 2013 года в 17:26 0
+Matt Rice That he did and honestly I'm glad he did. I figured he'd be the person that would come out and be honest like that. I was confused for awhile cause honestly I thought it got to a point where nothing was going to be said. So kudos to him for sure, it's really cool of him to do what he did and I expected nothing less from him. I still plan on giving the new album a shot, but I know I'm going to miss those vocals a lot, I already do.
kh7955 11 ноября 2013 года в 03:04 0
its not just the vocals people, their music has changed too....and not for the better. i love old pbc but this new stuff is just boring
Mark Schwartz 07 ноября 2013 года в 16:41 0
Though I don't think anything will compare to Chasing Hamburg. What I've heard isn't all that bad. Different; not their best; but a decent progression.
NoShitSherlock 07 ноября 2013 года в 02:38 0
Michael, this is just one song so far off their album? While you're entitled to your opinion, I love this song just as much as Screams in Caves which does feature his old sound.
d4m13n5 01 декабря 2013 года в 16:18 0
Increadible song and album! Listened for first time just few days ago and I just had to learn to play this and make a drum cover. I like the clean vocals better than growls. Keep it going!
Declan Rush 08 ноября 2013 года в 20:05 0
All three songs sound great, i am really excited for this record LP. Jimmys lyrics are brilliant!

I don't get why it matters why Jimmy's vocal style changed. It seems to me for what ever reason he wanted to change it.And it's still good.

No need to shit on the band just because they tried something new. I think their still great!
whateverduderdude 30 июля 2014 года в 19:12 4
I guess the one redeeming quality of this video is the drummer's Bad Religion shirt.

Bands mature. Musicians mature. Do the people who hate their new song play any kind of music? If you don't, and have not evolved as a musician.. than I ask you to sit down and shut up.

Also, I like their new stuff, NO its not the old stuff... their first album will never be topped.. why?
Because as a musician you spend your ENTIRE life, writing your first album.

Hopefully this is just a transition period for PBC, as the band try to fit the music around/get used to Jimmy not being able to sing raspy anymore and the next album will be less safe and build upon the strengths the band has.

its true there just isn't as much feeling in the vocals but you can tell he's trying hard and his voice is just dead. its not his fault, he's given us his all, now he is having to compromise to go on and we just need to be supportive of him. yes its not the same but its still good.
Mr. Potatoe Head 10 сентября 2014 года в 22:25 0
