I think that David gave us the best performance of "Heroes" of his entire career that night... my opinion.

Entwhistle had to try containing what Daltry described as a Jet Engine. If you go back and parse who is doing what in The Who Enwistle was the lead guitar off the bass, Townsand was a damn good rhythm guitarist who was somehow actually able to lock in with Moon from there.
Deacon deserves all the credit in the world as an elite level bassist and one of the very best at that, but comparing trying to ride herd on Keith Moon vs locking in with Rodger Taylor really isn't fair comparison.+Peter H

And the late Mick Ronson, dying of cancer himself, plays his heart out doing Fripp's guitar part. Wow.
wildcatter63 01 декабря 2018 года в 18:58
He was able to get what had taken Fripp and Eno days with a synthesizer with maybe one practice run through on a Tele and and E-Bow, and he might not have really needed the E-Bow. Especially if he had still had his Les Paul that he had given away... Yeah, he was THAT good...+Dave Longden
wildcatter63 25 ноября 2018 года в 15:15
"Beyond Bowie" answers a few of the questions. Although wtf was actually going on isn't one of them, but the do admit that it is Ronno on Diamond Dogs Album. As if Rebel could have been anyone else+Leps262
Hello There 01 ноября 2018 года в 22:48
Yes, but where the hell was Ian Hunter?!!!!??!! I was promised him.
Dave Longden 07 октября 2018 года в 03:00
+Bill A. Fripp was using more then just feedback. If you look at the Toni Visconti on producing David Bowie's "Heroes" video he says him and Eno were completely changing the sound of the guitar by putting it through Eno's synthesizer machine./ Very hard to mimic with any effect pedal. Proves how good Ronson was on this day since his guitar with the E-bow is pretty close to the studio sound!
wildcatter63 07 мая 2018 года в 16:33
He had given his sanded down LP custom away about 10 years earlier. That guitar could probably held the sustain without any embellishments.

I've done research of a lot of stuff Ronson not only with Bowie but with other artists. He is pretty awesome, too bad he's no longer with us. RIP Mick and Freddie

This version for me is the best , great drums , awesome bass from john deacon , and the late GREAT Mick Ronson a true guitar hero along with Brian May good memories !
thijs78 17 января 2019 года в 07:23
The drums are an important factor why this sounds so good. Listen carefully how Roger Taylor slightly opens and closes the hi-hat when he hits the snare drum. It’s his signature song and make Queen songs sound so strong.
Works as well on this great Bowie composition as you hear!
Deacon nails it totally. Beautifully played.
wildcatter63 15 апреля 2018 года в 23:53
Suspect it was the only time that the guitarist that it was written for ever preformed it. RIP Ronno and now Bowie's joined you.

wildcatter63 22 апреля 2018 года в 01:44
And They can finally do a "live" version of Under Pressure... I suspect that Trevor and Mick may be the only combo that could have replaced Mays and Deacon on that song. Few bands that EVERYONE is virtuoso/exceptional on their instrument; Led Zepplin obviously since they started out as the top session musicians getting together to finish out the Yardbirds contracts , but Queen and The Spiders were as well. Even the Beatles only Paul was considered at that level on bass, their magic was the mix/chemistry. Not sure if we will ever see that again in modern bands.
And this time it's Freddy that gets to hijack Bowie's Spiders instead of Bowie snagging Queen. Suspect that either Bonzo or Moonie can handle Woody's pocket for them. Probably will take turns.

Like Queen stole the show at Live Aid '86, Bowie stole Queen's show with this one and I bet no one appreciated more than the guys of Queen. Masterful performance by all of them.

wildcatter63 Amen to that. Who’s still watching this in 2018?
wildcatter63 22 апреля 2018 года в 02:15
Bowie, you expect greatness, but when he's with Ronson? Goes a bit beyond expecting greatness. As Ian Hunter put it, see them together was like seeing Hendrix for the first time. That is in force of nature territory.
chaos 6010 12 февраля 2018 года в 05:18
LiveAid was in 1985 and for the most people George Michael stole the show on Freddie Tribute concert but i guess only because the people actually expected greatness from Bowie.
Frank de Heer 23 декабря 2016 года в 23:43 25
Amazing performance, Ronson nails this one, to see Bowie with him is beautiful. Compliment to John Deacon too. This song is a masterpiece.

I've listened to this over & over just to remember Mick Ronsons unique style. They say he is 64th all time guitarist, I argue that. Definitely in top 10.
wildcatter63 01 декабря 2018 года в 19:58
Bowie actually didn't get any money for those either. EVER DeFries somehow got pretty much all future royalties for the Spiders era albums when Bowie paid him 5 million to get him off their backs. And I suspect it was getting him off BOTH their backs although Ronno may have signed new less a deal with the devil with the devil afterwards. But after Bowie paid off DeFries is when Ronno was able to do things like go on the road with Hunter and other things that DeFries had been pricing Ronno out of the ability to do.
Mind you, Ronno himself might not have known that Bowie, Hunter, John Mellincamp and Joe Elliot were splitting the $$$ to pay for his treatments and keep his family(s?) afloat financially (He had 2 sons to women other than Suzy. The oldest predated their marriage, but the youngest, Jakob, was maybe 2 or 3 when Ronson Died. He and Suzy were actually estranged at one point. It is not clear if Jacob was the result or the cause of said estrangement. Both sons seem to have disappeared although I think I ran across something about the elder boy being a musician) (I suspect that Hunters share of the costs was prorated, probably with Bowie or Bowie and Elliot making up the difference since they were the two big time SUPERSTARS in on that...) I suspect Ronson did not know about the financial arrangement since the blow that would have been to his pride when that would have been damn near ALL the poor bastard had left.
There was a deliberate dis-information campaign concerning what the relationship between them was for some reason, guessing said DeFries was somehow involved. If you watch the Beside Bowie Doc ( Which Bowie did the voice over for knowing he would be dead before it was released...)Ronson admits to having played on Diamond Dogs. (As if ANYONE but Ronno could have come up with Rebel... Seriously... AND I re-watched the "Spiders From Mars Extended Interviews" again recently and caught something I had not caught before. Woody very specifically states that he and Trevor did not play on Rebel. What he also very specifically does NOT say is that Ronno didn't play on it) And Bowie admits that they were never out of touch, with Ronno showing up back stage at least once on every tour. Face it, that 1983 Montreal concert where Bowie claims to have just bumped into Ronno in a hotel hallway to get him on stage again when he was in the process of getting out of music all together is about as believable as a LOT of what was put out over the years about the relationship between the two of them after you slow down and think about if what got put out even made sense.
Think about it, Bowie would be the first to question his own sanity, but the one thing he NEVER could be called was stupid and kicking Ronno out would have been stupidity at an unbelievable level on Bowie's part. And it was Ronson's choice to not play on any of those albums. That the door was ALWAYS open for him to walk back through and into the Lead Guitarist from hell, Musical Director, and full partner with Bowie slot that he had walked out of right before the Diamond Dogs tour was to start. Bowie had expected Ronno to do that tour but he went to do his first solo album, which by the way was NOT the flop it was made out to be having charted at #6?
Even the Morrissey 2013 interview about Ronson has some logic skips, with Morrissey saying that Bowie would write actual letters to Ronson which Ronson would be over the moon to get and would go read instantly. He also states the obvious that with Bowie it had always been there was only Ronson, yet he too throws in that Ronson was upset that Bowie didn't want him back or words to that effect, which if you think about is again logically contradictory. Even the last Ronson record for Morrissey is a wtf since Ronson is listed as only doing the Cream cover of "I Feel Free", yet the YouTube video of Ronson and Bowie working on Black Tie White Noise s even titled"I know it will happen Someday" which is the Morrissey cover.
Ronson was who left and the door was always open for him to come back. That he didn't until the end.....
+Peter H
Ann White 24 июня 2018 года в 16:33
He was in touch with Bowie before he died, and Bowie contributed to his medical expenses, along with Ian Hunter, John Mellencamp and Joe Elliot.

wildcatter63 22 апреля 2018 года в 19:53
Thank you I went to have a look or listen as the case may be and it is not available to listen to, nor does it appear that it ever will be nor is it referenced. While usually the BBC is a very good source I am afraid that in this case it appears not to be. As such I will stand with what is being said making no sense and being in sharp contrast with other more reliably sourced information by people that were known to have been connected to both Bpwie and the Ronson family over the years.

This is the best live version of this song, of course with the great Mick Ronson!
wildcatter63 17 февраля 2018 года в 01:57
That's who it was written for. Don't think Bowie ever wrote a song or a melody that in the back of his mind didn't have Ronno as the guitarist. He wouldn't have needed the at least 2 if not 3 guitarists of the Frampton/SRV caliber plus not being a slouch on guitar himself to play he was hearing in his head otherwise...

Madam, You are free to believe any thing you wish, as am I. Robert Fripp was not "Bowie's Beck", Ronno was till the day Bowie died.
Ann White 25 июня 2018 года в 18:13
Robert Fripp and Brian Eno came up with the guitar line, Tony Visconti was there and he said so. Brian Eno is the co writer of Heroes, in case you hadn't noticed.
Heroes is based on Waiting for the Man, so I guess you could say it was written for Lou Reed. Thinking Bowie spent the rest of his career writing for Mick Ronson is just your opinion really.
wildcatter63 24 июня 2018 года в 17:44
They didn't write it, David Bowie did. And I don't think Bowie wrote ANYTHING past The Spiders that didn't have Ronson and his talent at the back of Bowie's mind while doing it. What Ronson could do solo or with just one backing guitarist took 3 or 4 plus Bowie on guitar to achieve without him. Hero's was written for Ronson, as was everything else, and I strongly suspect his usual cast of suspects would tell you the same thing. The two longest most consistently serving suspects, Slick and Garson, both come pretty close to spelling that out in various interviews. If/when Ronson wanted his place as Bowie's lead guitarist AND band leader back, it was his.
Ann White 24 июня 2018 года в 16:30
Why would Robert Fripp and Brian Eno write a guitar part for Mick Ronson?
wildcatter63 22 апреля 2018 года в 01:49
Only time the guitarist it was written for actually preformed it. And I m not referring to Dr May.

To be honest, my gratitude far outweighs my sadness because I got to live during his time and got to call myself a fan while he was alive. I don't think I'm alone in saying that when I discovered Bowie's music I discovered a part of myself.

radioscillator 07 января 2017 года в 17:23
I agree with you. I have always been a fan, but I never knew how deeply rooted my connection to Bowie's musical legacy was until he passed away. It was like losing a personal friend, somewhat taken for granted because the music was always there. When he suddenly wasn't, though, there was such an empty place in my daily life, it's hard to explain. So thankful that his music remains, what a gift to remember!

Bowie, Mercury, and Ronson: they are gone from our world now, but we have had to privilege to enjoy their work.
DGalacticMan 13 сентября 2018 года в 21:17 1
David and Mick did what Queen did at Live Aid. They stole the show. Mick was brilliant, this is the only time, I think, he played Heros live. Year later Mick passed away due to liver cancer, he was diagnosed round 1990 so he knew he was dying. He was and still is sadly underrated. Brilliant arranger, guitarist and co frontman. He arranged a lot of songs (if not all) during Bowie's pre and post Ziggy era but didn't get credited for it. Mick had a great sound really iconic. RIP Mick Ronson, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury and all the others that helped make the legends but aren't mentioned usually.
cosmicowboy111 12 января 2016 года в 15:19 4
This video originally had David saying the Lords prayer at the end of it in honor of Freddie and his loss, its a shame that at this time with his passing it to is gone. RIP Ziggy :(

+cosmicowboy111 There is an audience film that includes it, has the Annie lennox and ian hunter segment as well. Many of the uploads were removed but this has Bowie's complete performance.

William Peirce 17 февраля 2018 года в 13:52 4
I've heard Mick Robson's guitar described as an animal waiting to be released. This is a perfect example of that.

Mick Ronson Documentary Beside Bowie led me here ...that note that Mick lays on through the song is so sad. You can see he's sick and this performance was redemption for him but unfortunately he didn't live much longer.
lux 04 сентября 2016 года в 12:35 3
I love bowies suit color here. If I'm not mistaken it looks like his "ice blue" suit from life on Mars!!! I could be utterly wrong though.
SERBON 06 февраля 2018 года в 22:08 2
Damn, that sound of Ronson's guitar!
James Foley 30 сентября 2017 года в 10:51 4

jona12491 08 марта 2015 года в 21:29 3

T Parker 21 января 2016 года в 04:20 3
Only to think a year after this, Mick would be gone.
Taley 11 января 2016 года в 08:32 112
I wish the video included David's short speech after and him saying The Lord's Prayer. Finding that on another website comforted me tonight.
Thank you for all you did in your lifetime and rest in peace, David Bowie. I'm glad to live in a world where you have existed.
John Woods 21 февраля 2018 года в 20:28

ΠJelly-fash shall I re-comment, the Christian "all good" god doesn't and couldn't exist (if hes all good why would he make us decide that he doesn't exist?
Œ JellyFash 07 мая 2017 года в 14:57
Because some of us believe that he does.
Œ JellyFash 07 мая 2017 года в 14:55
Joe Ranahan God exists if you believe that he does. You may not believe, but that doesn't give you the right to try and say that he does not exist.

After they played All the Young Dudes, as the players were living the stage David called " "Rono" to stay with him to play Heroes Only see it in the actual concert footage. Kinda cool
B Bradley 11 января 2016 года в 19:00 3
I wonder if Mick Ronson was sick here? He was a highly under-rated artist. Rest in peace, Freddie, Mick and now David Bowie!
wildcatter63 22 апреля 2018 года в 02:29
Yeah, this was past the 3 months they initially gave him to live. He lived 20 some months after they found the cancer
Jon Fazzone 24 февраля 2016 года в 03:57
Mick Was Told By Doctors to Never Play Live Again. To Much Of a Health Risk. He Wouldn't Miss This For The World. Died Almost A Year To The Day Later
DonVal86 15 января 2016 года в 06:11
Yes. His work in particular with Bowie was inspiring. Not a lot of showy solos, but alot of unique tones and memorable melodies. Especially his solo on Moonage Daydream.
Soeren Brinch 14 января 2016 года в 18:48
+DonVal86 From my point of the World - He is one of the best guitarist of the World. But first respected fully after his sadly exit....

This is one of my favorite performances of any artist ever and it makes me wish Queen and Bowie did more together. Imagine if they toured with him instead of Paul Rodgers. Would have been incredible. RIP Freddie, David, Ronno. All gone too soon.
