======= "Cliffs Of Gallipoli" SONG STORY =======

Tribute to the soldiers who died during the Battle of Gallipoli (WWI)

The Battle of Gallipoli was a campaign of World War I that took place on the Gallipoli peninsula between the 25th of April 1915 and the 9th of January 1916.

Intending to secure a sea route to the Russian empire, the allied forces (Russia, The British Empire and France) launched a naval attack followed by an amphibious landing on the peninsula with the aim of capturing the Ottoman capital of Constantinople. After eight months of fighting and more than 200’000 casualities on both sides, the allied decides to abandon the land campaign and withdrew the invasion forces to Egypt.

======= "Attero Dominatus" LYRICS =======

Hear them whisper,
voices from the other side
Hear them calling
former foes now friends are resting side by side

They will never leave our hearts or fade away
live forever
they were far too young to die in such a way

how many wasted lives
how many dreams did fade away
broken promises
they won’t be coming home

Oh mothers wipe your tears
your sons will rest a million years
found their peace at last
as foe turned to friend
and forgive
And they knew they’d die

Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
Such waste of life
Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust

Hell is waiting where the ocean meets the sand
Cliffs of burden
where the soldiers rushed into a certain death

At the shoreline
Blood of heroes stains the land
light a candle
One for each of them who fought and died in vain

There is no enemy
There is no victory
Only boys who lost their lives in the sand
Young men were sacrificed
Their names are carved in stone and kept alive
and forever we will honour the memory of them
And they knew they would die

Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
Such waste of life
Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust

Oh mothers wipe your tears
your sons will rest a million years
found their peace at last
as foe turned to friend
and forgive
And they knew they would die

Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
Such waste of life
Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust

I wish I was there! Next time I hope! By the way I'm back! I'm really back this time! And as I might of said every year I put clips of Gallipoli on my Facebook and Twitter page! I'll do it again next year! Love you

Guys as a Turk, i want to apologize some ill- written comments in this section implying racism, hate or disrespect to the EVERY SINGLE SOLDIER fought in that war, including French, British, ANZAC and Ottoman soldiers. It was an impressive but still equally dramatic battle between the sons of both major countries (ANZAC-Ottoman). There are resources showing that they usually spent time together when they are not fighting, shared cigarettes and food with each other. They have died the most glorious death of all. And i want to say that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, The founder of the Republic of Turkey and a Commander during the battle of gallipoli said: "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well." So let those brothers who were the victims of cruel hate and greed of humanity rest in peace and above the skies.

Sencer Eser that pains me to hear man but I hope you understand anzac men did not want to be there and both sides had an equal understanding for each other it was just the circumstances
Shay Patrick Cormac 01 августа 2018 года в 04:22
Sencer Eser You Have To Understand That Those men who Were British, Australian, New Zelanders, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and Frenchmen fought and died for what they thought was right same with the Turks they fought and died like you Great Great Grandfather they died to defend their country as did those men of the Allied Forces the Flags May be different but the motivations are the same.

My God rest the souls of who fell at Gallipoli weather they be allied soldiers or it be men of The Turkish Defense Force.

Kemal was indeed a peculiar fellow, he really tried to do his best (as president), and often failed and did inexcusable things "for" democracy, but I think he was just human, and, at least,.he wasn't (to my knowledge) crual or narcissistic

Serop Pasha Armenians were seeking to form Greater Armenia and Russia entering the war from the caucaus was their chance to accomplish their goal..So they betrayed The Turks rebelled raided villages etc and made it easier for Russians to advance...But unlucky for them that Bolscheviks started their revolution in Russia,So Tsars army whitdraw their forces from the Caucaus front leaving Armenians alone...Shortly after russian retreat Kazım Karabekir Pasha(If ım not mistaken) Destroyed the Armenians on every battle they had and pushed them back and capitulated them,So as you can see Those rebels cooperated with the enemy and had their own region for a time,Which in this time Majority of the Armenians in the region cooperated with the rebels,So after the lost territories were regained by Turks every armenian in those lands got exiled,Many of them died on the way because of Kurdish gangs or Armenian leftover rebels which attacked them for loot or they died because of disease and lack of supply.....Armenians failed to accomplish their goals via backstabbing Turks,They failed missarebly..and payed a Heavy price, and Now they are trying to claim those lands via this “Genocide” accusation so they can take those lands.....Its not a genocide..Its the results of war Which they started

Just look around you, how long do you think I'm a Geordie of the population of the United States was the last if they just lost internet...let alone; ready access to food, paying work, and shelter. Within two weeks I bet most of the people raised solely with the internet and such immediate access would be contemplating suicide pacts lol

What is all this bullshit ofc this is war, and we purged our land from invaders. Ofc this is war, they invaded and we fought. Whats wrong about bringing back to memoriea that gallipoli was a defence againist invaders?

Sencer Eser Had the Allies occupied the Dardanelles the war would’ve been cut down by 1-2 years, the opening of a third front could’ve finished it in a shorter time by linking supplies up with Russia and fighting Germany from the south. I’m studying history in university, so don’t try to argue mate. Had your country been with us millions could’ve been saved and WW2 wouldn’t have occurred. Your country is a genocidal assortment of maniacs and corrupt politicians.

Gelibolu Kıyıları

Fısıldamalarını duyun
Öteki dünyadan sesler
Çağrılarını duyun
Eski düşman şimdiki dostlar yan yana yatıyorlar
Asla kalplerimizi terk etmeyecek veya solup gitmeyecekler
Her zaman yaşayacaklar
Bu şekilde ölmek için çok gençtiler
Kaç tane harcanmış hayat
Kaç rüya solup gitti
Tutulmayan sözler
Eve dönemeyecekler
Anneler göz yaşlarınızı silin
Oğullarınız sonsuza dek huzur içinde olacak
Sonunda huzura erdiler
Düşman arkadaşa dönüp
Ve affettiğinde
Ve onlar öleceklerini biliyorlardı
(Nakarat)
Gelibolu
Mektuplarını kumlarda bıraktılar
Tam bir yaşam israfı
Gelibolu
Özgürlük hayalleri toz oldu
Okyanusun kumla buluştuğu yerde cehennem bekliyor
Sıkıntının kıyıları
Askerlerin kesin ölüme koştukları yer
Kıyıda
Kahramanların kanları toprağı ıslatır
Bir mum yakın
Savaşıp boşa ölen her biri için
Düşman yok
Zafer yok
Sadece kumlarda hayatını kaybeden çocuklar
Genç adamlar kurban edildi
İsimleri taşlara kazındı ve unutulmadı
Ve her zaman onların anılarını onurlandıracağız
Ve öleceklerini biliyorlardı
(Nakarat)
Anneler göz yaşlarınızı silin
Oğullarınız sonsuza dek huzur içinde olacak
Sonunda huzura erdiler
Düşman arkadaşa dönüp
Ve affettiğinde
Ve onlar öleceklerini biliyorlardı

To knock the Ottoman Empire out of the war and to give the Russians the much needed supplies to help carry the war, but that all failed because of two things, one the ANZACs landed too far away from where they were supposed to land and two, they never had any back-up from the British of the French at the time. The entire campaign was botched from day one.

I am from New Zealand, and 100 years ago our leaders some how thought that Europe's war became our war and so my great, great grandfather ran to the hills of Gallipoli and threw away his life all for what? We werent defending anything, we were attacking a nation, attacking a nation, on a foreign soil we had no place being. And so they marched, destined for death.
A Certain Chen 16 июля 2017 года в 00:23
Anton Nzl So true. Everyone says they were “defending our country”. I dont mean to be disrespectful, but may I point out that Gallipoli was an offensive campaign, not defensive. Worse, it failed.

Thank you for writing this song. I cried when I first read the words of forgiveness of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, as an Australian, I was humbled by the generosity of a people whom we had attacked. I did not know of this speech/memorial before I went to Gallipoli and to this day I do not know of a message of condolence that would better offer solace to a parent who lost their solider child.

güzel ve anlamlı bır parça, türkçe sözleri için buyrun,
cliffs of Gallipoli ( Gelibolu Uçurumları)

Gelibolu!
Kuma harflerini bıraktılar.
Öyle bir hayat ziyanlığı ki!
Gelibolu!
Özgürlük hayalleri toza dönüştü.

Respect for turkey, a prepared and honourable enemy (at thee time, but now an ally). Respect for New Zealand, our nations brother who bled by our sides. Respect for the Tommies, the British troops sent along us into hell. But for the British generals who caused this massacre, "ill stand by you, but never now will i bow" (Australian saying after numerous failures of the English generals)

lyrics:

Hear them whisper,
voices from the other side
Hear them calling
former foes now friends are resting side by side

They will never leave our hearts or fade away
live forever
they were far to young to die in such a way

how many wasted lives
how many dreams did fade away
broken promises
they won't be coming home

Oh mothers wipe your tears
your sons will rest a million years
found their peace at last
as foe turned to friend
and forgive
And they knew they'd die

Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
Such waste of life
Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust

Hell is waiting where the ocean meets the sand
Cliffs of burden
where the soldiers rushed into a certain death

At the shoreline
Blood of heroes stains the land
light a candle
One for each of them who fought and died in vain

There is no enemy
There is no victory
Only boys who lost their lives in the sand
Young men were sacrificed
Their names are carved in stone and kept alive
and forever we will honor the memory of them
And they knew they would die

Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
Such waste of life
Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust

how many wasted lives
how many dreams did fade away
broken promises
they won't be coming home

Oh mothers wipe your tears
your sons will rest a million years
found their peace at last
as foe turned to friend
and forgive
And they knew they would die

Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
Such waste of life
Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust

There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. That's the nature of war. After the conflict has ended, there were so many mothers who knew their sons would never return, but the Mehmets declared that they WERE home, and were resting peacefully.

The Turkish commanding officer, Mustafa Karmal, said to his men “…. I do not order  you to fight. I order you to die. Your deaths will buy time to bring up reinforcements. It did. The original Turkish defenders suffered 100% causalities repelling the invaders: the ANZAC (Australian New Zealand Army Corps).

None of the poetry nor the ode can describe what it was like. Everyone suffered losses and almost all didn't know what to do, Dardanelles or Ottoman.

I can only imagine, and what I do imagine is gruesome. I do hope that neither side had to endure the silent winds of death, nor its cold embrace.

What I do imagine, is what is sung in this song.

A black soil, infused with ash and smoke. A constant ringing and always a foot from death. The orders of the commander soon start to feel like pure hatred among the ranks of these men. Knowing your death is soon, and seeing others die in such gruesome ways. Wet and damp trenches, death lying in wait above. The stink of your friends and enemies alike.

Lest we forget.

ANTISTANDREWS 20 мая 2015 года в 09:40
+Денич Сахаров You obviously have no idea of the actual campaign itself, the gallantry that was shown on both sides and the respect that they had for each other. On the second day of the invasion Australian troops were asked to make a phony assault on Gaba Tebe in order to test the defenses there, which were the strongest in the Anzac Cove area. The commanding officer accepted but only under the condition that he take only volunteers. He only needed a company (120) men, so when he asked who would do it, all of the company put their hands up and even others from other units volunteered. They landed again at Gaba Tebe, under heavy fire and taking heavy casualties, however the Turks stop fire and allowed the Australians to grab their wounded, every single time, then to continue firing. There is an amazing statue at Canakkale which shows a Turkish soldier (Mehmet) carrying a wounded Australian Soldier (Johnny, who actually became the future Governor-General of Australia). Turks and Aussies and Kiwis and Pommes quite often carried each others wounded back. A few weeks after the invasion, An Australian carried a wounded Turk back to the Trenches, after that they started to talk, and then more and more troops came out and began to talk with each other. They exchanged cigarettes for bully beef and joked and laughed. Australian troops would often play a game with the Turks where the Turks would hold up a paper target on a stick in their trench and challenge the Australians to hit it. Most of the times the Aussies cheated by using periscope rifles, but they still enjoyed playing. The truth is that while the campaign was brutal, the heroism was amazing on both sides. Ataturk asked the entire 57th regiment not to fight, but to die, in order to hold back the Anzac forces long enough to reinforce the area. They did this without question. At Helles, the Australians were the ones to make it the furthest after the second battle of Krithia, after New Zealand and British forces suffered heavy casualties. The Australians were given only 35 minutes of warning for the attack, and had to cross 800 yards to get to the starting line known as Tommy's Trench, under heavy fire. They reached there and stumbled into the trench, tired, wounded and weary, and still needed to begin the assault, so Brigadier James McCay, the leader of the force, jumped up onto the parapet of the trench and shouted out to his men "Which of you are Australians?" (Since the trench also had royal marine division troops in it) however nobody answered, so again he shouted out "Which of you are Australians?", now some voices spoke up in the crowd, by the third time "Which of you are Australians?", the entire company was shouting out and rearing to go. They then gained another 500 yards of ground, the furthest the allied forces would go at Helles. The truth is mate that don't try and act like an expert until you actually do some research, and by your name I can tell that you're Belorussian, so maybe you should stop butting into other peoples history and focus on getting that corrupt Putin loving President out. Maybe you should learn about your own history as well and compare the battle of Minsk to Gallipoli, then you'll understand what real brutality it.

The memorial at Anzac Cove, commemorating the loss of thousands of Ottoman and Anzac soldiers on the Gallipoli Peninsula.

''Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.''
— Atatürk 1934

Today is ANZAC day in Australia and New Zealand. This morning, there was a dawn service in Galipolli in honour of the ANZAC and Turkish soldiers who died in WW1, along with dawn services all over Australia and New Zealand.

Former foes now friends they're resting side by side.

Lest We Forget.

Comments section is absolutely disgusting, people acting like they know everything about this conflict and being proud of it despite not even being apart of that generation that made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Shame on you, completely and utterly disrespectful to both sides of this conflict.

Britain rules the world, some bad shit went down but a lot of good shit too like stabalising regions from tribal warfare, giving medicine, education, law and order, ending violence v women , bringing trade prosperity, remember it was a white Yorkshire englishman man (mr Wilberforce) who ended the slave trade, MANY of the countries England conquered are STILL loyal to the commonwealth and enjoy/benefit/ are proud of being part of the empire. There are probably MILLIONS of non English born citizens in our foreign terretories MUCH more loyal to biritain than ppl nowadays who are born in Britain. w e have a LEGACY a historical burden, but it is the GLORIOUS BURDEN. Be proud of your achievements and never let the darker side come into practice again, It's what we humans do, We learn.

comment wars and arguments confuse me on these sort of things as far as it goes both sides are heroic the soldiers were friends threw smokes food ect i cant imagine anyones grandfathers or other ANZAC or Ataturk or Turkish soldiers would want any of this it was over 100 years ago let the feud rest lest we forget.|
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them

exactly, i once heard a story where an Australian man offered his last smoke to a turk during the armistice to bury the dead and the turk offered him a light in return, they were fighting men who they became friends with. in another time, in another place they would have been brothers.

*Sabaton in a nutshell:*
*Ottomans get defeated* in the siege of vienna against impossible odds / *"Glorious day, we kicked janissary asses, killed them all" (Winged Hussars)*
*Ottomans defeat* the allied forces in Gallipoli against impossible odds. / *"Sad day, young people died from both sides for naught :(" (Cliffs of Gallipoli)*

euro-centrism at its best

+Papa Kool-Aid but 🅱️ottomans overcame many more "impossible odds" in other wars. still noone cares
Papa Kool-Aid 16 ноября 2018 года в 05:35
I know this was posted a year ago, but i'm still going to comment on it.
The situations in both of these wars were much different, first of all During the siege of Vienna The Ottomans were one of, if not the most, powerful nations in the world. They had build their massive empire on the conquest of other nations, what I mean by this is that they were very experienced in warfare, and had some of the brightest tactical minds of the time. That's why the siege of Vienna was such a glorious victory. During Gallipoli there where no "impossible odds" that the Ottomans overcame, they already had the advantage of being the defenders, and did it well to because after April of 1915, the Allies didn't make any more gains, so it's not like the ottomans pushed the allies back after having made huge gains. Also they knew the attack was coming and already had many defenses set up. They also had the benefit of being aided, by German troops, and officers. The major difference between the 2 battles, and most important reason as to why your wrong, is because the victory at the siege of Vienna basically decided the outcome of the war, while the reason that Gallipoli is such a tragedy is because so many people died, and it changed nothing but the wars death-count.
