I tried 20 years ago, didnt like most of their songs. This one is amazing. Now with a new perspective, most of their songs are still awful. But some are pretty good. I used to dismiss a band when most of their songs where shit.

I've been suffering depression for a while. I have always been into metal - power, folk, core, melodeath and more. Of course the last few months dug me down into depressive BM mainly, yet nothing helps as much as this. I always feel better spitting out the emotions devouring me after some serious BM yet nothing can compare to this pearl. These vocals seem to come out of my soul alone, like I am born again and again every time the chorus appears. It feels like a path between the death and life. I don't find DT's new stuff very good, yet I will be thankful them for the rest of my fucking life for Therein. And the words about starving for the energy cannot leave me for even a few minutes. For days they're stuck inside me. I know this is not outstanding 10/10 soundwriting yet never anything touched my soul that much. Thank you, Dark Tranquility. You make people suffer less and carry on. Truly an excellent song...

I do not know much about Death metal, and I have listened to very few songs, but I always tell fans about this song.And every single Death metal fan agrees, that it is an absolute classic, and the vocal can really sing, not just scream.And the flanger really does add to the emotions in the song ! One could easily understand the song purpose and meaning, without even knowing the lyrics !

I heard these guys once in a while as a teenager, and for some reason I way underappreciated them. There is something very unique and strong about the way they wrote many of their songs. To rediscover them years later is very, very good.

I really wish labels would sort out a decent budget for Melodic Death Metal bands. I know this was 1998 but even recently only really Insomnium have eye catching videos that match the songs where as most others are just concert extracts.

I almost see it the same way, except that it doesn't just speak to the first man, it speaks to everyone in this day and age. Our lives today are so confusing, arguably the most confused we ever were. As we no longer focus on survival, we focus on fulfillment and with all the systems in place today we can understand why there's so much conflict, because no one is sure anymore of what is truly right and what is truly wrong, what is truly necessary and what is truly a waste of time.

I can't believe no one mentioned Lethe here. It's not "soft" but it's really melancholic. "Am I 1?" is also Melancholic, not soft though. To be honest almost every Dark Tranquillity song is melancholic, the ones with Clean Vocals are Misery's Crown, Atoma, My Negation, and others I'm surely forgotting..
