and some people want Lars out of the band, when he is one of the hardest working member of Metallica.

All the Lars hating out there is the most misdirected crap
FoxxxenStudios 11 февраля 2018 года в 05:26
I know right? Look at every song credit on every album. It always has J. Hetfeild/L. Ulrich.

+Юрий Plate you re right kirk didn t contribute with anything on the album ...he " lost his phone" right :)

Vladan Marjanović your wrong, lars has always been a shit drummer, even James has told him his timings way off!!
Wes Andrade 04 декабря 2016 года в 18:29 243
I wish this making of vídeos, could last one hour or more, each one.
Ronaldo Murphano 19 декабря 2016 года в 14:53
Hell yeah, that would be nice. Instead of these little tid bits they give us....lol.
Hmantooth 12 декабря 2016 года в 12:09
That's a MASSIVE generalisation and simply not true. There's a fair few bands who do piece stuff together, usually the weaker element of a group is the one who needs the 'lego assembly' (great name!) process but its ridiculous to claim that ALL bands do that.
The Rockpit 05 декабря 2016 года в 02:51
ALL bands do it that way, Metallica are no different
reav3rtm 05 декабря 2016 года в 00:16
It was Lego assembly with Bob Rock, Bob was perfectionist, but is it really with Fidelman? I'm not sure.

I never would of thought lars did this much on this album.. He's actually a great songwriter, without him, this record easily wouldn't be as good as it is. To me at least.
james varte 25 мая 2018 года в 14:23
Paperback Writer kirk losing his phone is Bs. He probably went to rehab. But I agree he's not exactly efficient in the studio.
egrifi 09 мая 2018 года в 13:15
Please check all metallica songs, all songs written by Hetfield&Ulrich. At the some songs additionnally Hammett,Burton,Newsted and Trujillo credited.Lars has been main composer of Metallica since 1981.
Juicexlx 27 октября 2017 года в 01:25
That comment doesn't make sense in a 2 guitars pro level band, because James is and always has been strictly a rhythm guitar player. Unlike Alexi Laiho or the late Dimebag Darrell for example who can/could write both guitars' parts. Dave Mustaine is more versatile than James as he compose/play various solos, but even he, needs good solos guitarists to make Megadeth work as a band.
Rikied 04 декабря 2016 года в 18:38 154
They should put these clips together and release "8 years and a half in the life of Metallica"
Lasse Wienke Andersen 12 сентября 2017 года в 20:04
Rikied And remeber they also made a 3D movie and a tour with Lou Reed, and a tour where fans decided the songs...

Carlos Vinícius Santos Oliveira 04 декабря 2016 года в 18:31 66
Watching all the "making of" videos gives me the impression that kirk only comes to record some solos, licks, intros and outros then goes home.
(((Only_ZuuL)))) 09 декабря 2018 года в 07:19
kirk does his job what he's supposed to do in the band and that's it. no fucking around and not being where he's not needed. this is serious shit they're still one of the biggest bands in the world worth a fuck-ton of money and even though they're all best friends they have to be professional. in a music studio, film set, TV studio, if you're not required there then either you're notified or you just keep the fuck out of it until you're needed. even though it's metallica and it's his band, kirk knows that he should be there only when he's needed so his other band mates can work uninterrupted.
Vinícius 04 декабря 2018 года в 22:21
funny thing: some of the most iconic Metallica rifs came from Kirk.
ShadowⓋ 13 ноября 2018 года в 02:35
+Fogarasi Dániel
That's probably why Avenged Sevenfold sucks. Most people don't want to hear lead guitar all the way through a song. That's annoying as hell.
Fogarasi Dániel 12 ноября 2018 года в 20:54
+ShadowⓋ "lead guitar in a metal band is really nothing more than a filler" I dont think thats true at all.For example Look at an Avenged sevenfold song, Syn writes lead and its played throught the whole song most of the Time(and its seperate from the rythym).
DoomiePookie 30 июня 2017 года в 01:38
Kirk is fuckin shit now days. Lazy with his guitar work live. Sloppy as diarrhea. Drug fucked.
Trollstation123 05 декабря 2016 года в 00:00 102
It's stuff like this that proves that Lars may not be the best drummer in the world, but he is the best drummer AND arranger fit for Metallica. Take Lars out of the equation and it wouldn't be "Metallica" anymore.
PillowHugger 21 декабря 2016 года в 14:59
+hinjurock I'm not talking specifically about you. I'm talking about morons that have tilted left and right because of a comment, something you haven't.
HinjuRock 18 декабря 2016 года в 17:13
+NorwayBall I've been in many bands, and I always wished that I had a drummer (or any band member) who was as motivated, dedicated, inspired, ambitious and perfectionistic as Lars - every band needs someone like that if they want to succeed.
PillowHugger 15 декабря 2016 года в 07:43
+ hinjurock I'm not arguing whether Metallica still is Metallica with or without members. I'm saying that by the logic that "Metallica isn't Metallica without Lars", they already stopped being Metallica when Cliff died. He had that much of an influence on the band. The entire argument is pointless and stupid, I'm just applying it to another member. But I can already see that most of my points flew way above the head of these tilted fanboys that gets triggered by the most minor things they see as some kind of critique.¨
The very fact that people just now - after watching the 'making of' from an album that was literally made by half the band for various reasons - start overhyping his involvement as an arranger, the same involvement he always had (it just becomes a bit more apparent when there are two of them (one being the quiet Hetfield, the other being a non-stop talking Dane)) shows how little they have payed attention to Lars' behavior in previous recording videos. It's also very apparent that some of you have never ever been in a band. It doesn't matter how big or successful a band is, they always have a Lars in it to some degree. Just because he takes control, doesn't make him the creative master genius or the sole arranger.
HinjuRock 14 декабря 2016 года в 22:42
+NorwayBall No band would be the same band if you took away their two main members, and James and Lars have always been the bandleaders and primary songwriters and arrangers, as well as being the main influences as far as direction the band, because they were the founding members of the band. Cliff, Kirk, Jason, etc came on board later, after those things were already established.
PillowHugger 14 декабря 2016 года в 15:45
+NinjoOnline Jason has literally nothing to do with anything I've said. But for the sake of mentioning him, he has the least amount of contributed writings among any of the members with album credits.
Popularity? Dude, that's irrelevant.

LOL at some of the people in the comments who are surprised by how much Lars is involved in the songwriting. If you were true Metallica fans, you would know that it has always been James and Lars's collaboration since the beginning that is Metallica.

Gonçalo Ferreira 04 декабря 2016 года в 17:21 14
1:32 Hetfield is in fact a robot, just waiting to play riffs xD
Dr. Phibes in Red 04 декабря 2016 года в 18:51 32
Watching all these "making of" videos, it seems that only James, Lars and Rob are really working on the songs. Rob should get at least more credit. Kirk seems like he doesn't give much shit. He comes in, puts down a solo in a few takes (and honestly, there is not much we haven't heard before) and goes back to surfing, watching movies or smoking a joint or whatever. Of course, he has lost his phone with the 5 million riffs and song ideas. No back ups, nothing. He's getting lazy while his bandmates do all the work.
Marin Hrabrić 15 ноября 2017 года в 22:26
kirk doesn't just come in and make a few solos and then leaves like he doesn't give a shit. he comes and makes a few solos and then leaves because that's what they told him to do, because they obviously don't want him to do much on this album
HinjuRock 08 декабря 2016 года в 16:13
He's bummed because he knows it's going to be another 5 to 8 years before he'll get the chance to contribute to a Metallica album, and he'll be 60 by then. I'd love to hear Kirk do a solo album, but James and Lars would probably throw a fit like they did when Jason wanted to do other projects, which is lame - all musicians should get the chance to personally express themselves to their full creative potential.
SuperVegeta25Returns 06 декабря 2016 года в 09:46
+Dr. Phibes in Red I agree lol. I think Kirk lost all motivation since that happened lol
Dr. Phibes in Red 06 декабря 2016 года в 09:04
+SuperVegeta25Returns
What did he do for 2 years? Crying over his lost phone? Come on. Other bands release an album every second or third year. Hetfield wrote all the riffs on the new album on his own. And Kirk couldn't come up with something in 2 years? And not having a back up of your riffs, that's just stupid.
SuperVegeta25Returns 06 декабря 2016 года в 04:41
Dr. Phibes in Red you do know kirk lost a bunch of riffs he wrote on his phone 2 years ago or so. so he probably isn't the happiest when making the newest album lol

PooplexCanal 04 декабря 2016 года в 19:14 21
One interesting fact, when we see James doing vocals in the vocal booth with Greg in the studio itself, it looks like that they tend to do vocals at night, idk why, just because the lights in the studio are always off when they do vocals and vocal booth is dark always so.. idk just a thing I noticed
Tohofan122 11 октября 2017 года в 17:52
My friend told me singers prefer to sing later because their voices would have warmed up so less straining for them.
Herbivore 710 21 декабря 2016 года в 05:09
To summon evil ghostly deities of course
HinjuRock 08 декабря 2016 года в 16:19
Singers (as well as some guitarists, drummers, etc) often like to play and record in a dimly-lit space for ambiance and mood - I know that I do. Harsh bright office type lights really kill the vibe.
PooplexCanal 04 декабря 2016 года в 20:16
Motsenbopper probably, I assume that we won't know why.. Maybe when we'll see the rest of the making of HTSD, who knows..
Motsenbopper 04 декабря 2016 года в 20:10
It might just be a mood thing. Maybe James likes it darker for some reason?

Okay I was just reading and not gonna reply , but Now that we're dead better than Spit out the bone? LOOOOL imo that's the worst song by far. Not only is it the worst song imo but I think it's one of the worst Metallica songs ever. Murder One is okay, not as bad as people say but not in the same league as Spit imo. But yeah Revenge is a good song at least aha but hey, to each their own!

ManUNkind took a few listenings for me to enjoy it. Revenge has an amazing riff in my opinion. Am I Savage is really bad in its arrangement.
DriveByLover47 06 декабря 2016 года в 13:05 3
James: Main songwriter.Comes up with riffs, lyrics, melodies, ideas etc. to start the song.
Lars: Main songwriter.Does not always comes up with ideas but uses James' ideas to create a better one.He is the song arranger. He has vision what works or not, maybe changing ideas to make it more workable.
Rob: Vision for a fan.Gives advices on riffs. He sometimes comes up with riffs too.More of session guy.
Kirk: Does solos, discusses song direction, adds more sense to it.Writes and judges riffs too.

deadstar44 12 декабря 2016 года в 05:09 1
These making of videos really showcases what Lars haters fail to understand for years. He's the mastermind of chaos, the mastermind of this band called Metallica. Hetfield is the raw talent technically speaking but Ulrich is the one that polishes and sculpts that raw material into the gems you hear on those legendary records, he is the main driving force behind Metallica's success. It is the result of his overall vision beyond his drumming duties that conducts where the music they create should go sections by sections and what they should convey throughout. Anyone who claims to be a Metallica fan and shits on Lars just because of his limited drum abilities have no clue about the process and modus operanti of this band that explains why they are at the top today by writing so much catchy music since 1981. Lars is the key to all of this and every band should have that one guy, warts and all if they want to go anywhere because no disrespect to James and Kirk but they don't have the energy and drive to supervise and managing that ship by themselves.(Few people have it, that's why replacing Ulrich with the most technically proficient drummer of the world would not work if that guy doesn't know how to write and arrange songs or is all about showing off and crazy fills everywhere, servicing himself rather than servicing the song. It would definetely change the dynamics and sound of Metallica as a band, turning into something else that might not resemble Metallica's flavor anymore). Metallica is Lars Ulrich's band, not the other way around.

Without knowing how to arrange your parts and craft a fucking good song out of it all, you're just stringing along technical parts after technical parts without meaning, evolution or dynamics whatsoever. Latter things that classic Metallica songs have in spades thanks to Ulrich's knack for song arrangements. That's why Metallica songs are credited Hetfield (Metallica's heart) & Ulrich (Metallica's brain), those two go along musically wise like body & soul.

When I was a young amateur guitarist, I was like "Why does he get writing credits? He's just the fuckin' drummer!", then I got into bands and had to write songs with a beginning, a middle and an end stuck with a bunch of people that sometimes have no clue where to take things (Knowing how to do gravity blasts wouldn't help at all in that case). Then I understood why and now respect Ulrich even more watching behind the scenes videos.

yvette Hugues 23 января 2017 года в 09:07 1
You people really should STOP!!!!!!!!!! complaining about kicking Lars out of the band because it's getting really old and by the way Lars and James are the ones that formed Metallica back in 1981 so you people should get your facts straight before complaining about Lars or any member of Metallica
James Hammett 04 декабря 2016 года в 17:19 5
Why isn't kirk here ?
Marcus Cross 04 декабря 2016 года в 19:39
Kirk can write riffs. He can contribute ideas to the songwriting process without being able to put whole songs together.
Paperback Writer 04 декабря 2016 года в 19:35
He can't write songs, so he only comes to play another terrible wah-wah solo.
James Hammett 04 декабря 2016 года в 17:24
Máté Szekanecz ah i thought he was disapointed with the others
Máté Szekanecz 04 декабря 2016 года в 17:23
Frozen-Storm He lost his phone with all his ideas a couple months ago so he had nothing to come with. The others write the song, he just plays his part when all is ready

Ed Bain 05 декабря 2016 года в 20:42
Yeah look at you critiquing something you have no fucking clue about.
ZombieHorror666 04 декабря 2016 года в 22:09
Lukas T its not unnecessary.. Its an acoustic instrument, it gives a different sound depending on how hard, soft, fast, slow, static etc, you hit the drums.

Are you sure this isn’t for Cyanide?
Schizophrenic Enthusiast 05 декабря 2016 года в 15:58 1
It used to sound cool when Lars hits the snare with each note that James plays.

Now it's overused and it doesn't sound as good anymore.
Lef Band 04 декабря 2016 года в 16:58 6
Metallica yeeeeaaaaaaaa metal
